Sioux Cown Testing Assn March Report Details

The Sioux Cown Testing Association held a March 29 reorganization with Albert Dethmers re elected president George Meyners vice president and Walter Kruse secretary treasurer Their tester Frank Fleishnauer was renewed for a year Dethmers led with 430 pounds fat 547 pounds in total milk and 43.7 percent fat in the high herd stats The report lists second high herd G Slouthouber and high cow G Slouthouber with 1978 pounds milk and 91 fat and second high cow Dethmers with 2024 pounds milk 87 fat Seventy cows averaged 40 pounds or more and 24 cows 50 or more The association averaged 756 pounds milk and 23.3 fat with 386 cows total of which 49 were drys.

Father and Son Banquet a Decided Success

Practically 125 people attended the Father and Son banquet sponsored by the Citizenship Club on Tuesday night. The supper was delicious and the table decorations were well planned. The program proved popular and many hope it becomes an annual affair with Dr. Buntley as toastmaster. Laddie Dickevers read the accompanying poem to Art Roggen, his foster dad, as a surprise to the crowd.

Town elects M. Donai mayor in low turnout vote

In a light turnout on Monday 68 votes were cast to elect M. Donai mayor succeeding Henry Van Houte. Bergman led with 54 votes, Dykstra 5, Hirt 5, Miczcar 61, and Schrevder 9 as council members. Henry C. Meyn won reassessment with 59 votes. Herman Vander Weel elected treasurer with 49 votes.

Sioux Center hosts county music contest and school events

Sioux Center hosted the Sioux County music contest with alto and baritone solos, mixed quartet and other entries. Hawarden took first with Orange City second. The boys quartet advances to Ida Grove for state contest. Also planned are the operetta The Gipsy Rover on April 16, a Father and Son banquet, and an Ionian Literary Society meeting on April 4 at the high school auditorium.

Banquet thanks and upcoming church sale in Boyden area

Local businessmen and guests thank the Woman's Citizenship Club for the Father and Son banquet and hope for an annual event. The club plans a meeting at Mrs. Bolstadon's home on Friday afternoon. St John Lutheran parsonage and adjacent buildings to be sold at public auction on Monday April 7 on church grounds near Boyden with directions provided.

Sioux County Court Notes Incident and Grand Jury Actions

Sheriff Lynhorst and Deputy Dykstra arrested Roy Dimmick in Rock Valley on a incest charge filed by his fourteen year old daughter Wilma. Dimmick remains jailed awaiting Grand Jury action starting April 1. Grand Jury adjourned to review matters from earlier. Assistant Attorney General Neil Garrett aided the inquiry in Orange City and stayed with Attorney Hoeven in Alton. Supervisors let a 20 000 grading and a 40 000 bridge project pending Township Trustees and State Highway Commission approval. MacNamara crew moved to Alton to start work on the road from Alton to Primary Road No 18. Andrew Petersen of Tyler Minnesota received the 40 000 culvert and bridge contract. Cement usage is estimated at 14 000 sacks for the project.

Orange City Man Dies From Burns After Accident

Charlée De Cook, aged 28, of Orange City Ta, died from burns received recently. He did not seek aid promptly due to underestimating severity. He was the proprietor of Owls club and pool hall, working with his father in Orange City.

Parent-Teachers meeting set with Rev Beving speaker

Rev Beving will head the Parent Teachers Association meeting on Wednesday April 9 in the high school auditorium. Music by students from recent contests will accompany the program. Public invited with refreshments available.
