Thieves entered Boyden high school last week Wednesday night and stole several tools and small articles. Desks were opened but no valuables taken. A crow bar was used to force doors and tools from the manual training room aided the break in.
Station WNAR announces a special broadcast honoring Boyden and its creamer. The program airs Monday March 31 at 8:30 PM and is billed as entertaining and educational. Listeners are urged to tune in.
The Woman's Citizenship Club sponsors a Father Son banquet at the high school auditorium on Tuesday April 1. Already 125 tickets sold many more expected. All fathers and sons in Boydén and vicinity invited. Elaborate plans for a real banquet with a fine program. Get your tickets now. Also advertise Argentine bargains at A Vanden Brink's restaurant and grocery with practically no damage.
Mrs. Cornelius Salie died March 23 1930 at Samaritan hospital after an eight day illness at age 58. Funeral services were held at First Reformed Church Boyden with Rev Brink and Rev Clyde officiating. Interment in Boyden cemetery. She was born May 20 1871 in Groningen Netherlands and came to the U S in 1883. Married to Cornelius Salie on March 1889 he died April 18 1917. Eight children were born, two died in infancy and Tennis Salie died in 1918. She leaves several children and siblings. The cause of death was spinal meningitis. She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Boyden and many neighbors attended the funeral. The community extends condolences.
A fire of unknown origin damaged the A Vanden Brink restaurant building and contents on Thursday night. It started on the top floor and spread downward. The Verdoorn brothers from Hollandale Minn alerted others, Boyden and Sheldon fire departments responded, with Boyden extinguishing the blaze quickly. Most damage was to the top floor and south side. first floor interiors remained largely intact. The Sheldon department arrived after the fire was under control and praise was given for effective firefighting.
Notice states regular election for mayor treasurer assessor and five councilmen in Boyden will be held Monday March 31 1930. Henry Van Houte serving as mayor announces the poll.
Gustav Stegeman declares an oleo margarine burn and license disposal as a Saturday event to aid a dry community cause. The notice lists local visitors and family travels including Langstraat, Reoozeboom, Stutzman, Mouws, Epzinit, Ver Hoef, Langstraat of Gilby, and Crooks ton guests, plus trips from Sioux Center and Cedar Falls.
