West Virginia Faces Outward Migration and Slow Wage Growth
Preliminary Census estimates show more than 158000 residents left West Virginia from 1985 to 1990 and migration continued into the late 1990s as wage gains lagged behind other states. Despite a growing economy, WV’s unemployment remained above the national average, with the state aging and natural increase at a low level.
