Tour of West Virginia Bike Race Prompts Local Promotion
The Tour of West Virginia bicycle race planned for Beckley on July 24 could generate a $50 000 economic impact. Organizers expect 150 to 250 cyclists plus families to attend over two nights, with each person spending about $80 on lodging and meals. The Southern West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau backs the event with 2500 for purses, 1026 for judges, and 3500 for advertising, aiming to attract 5000 to 7000 spectators for the pro race in Beckley and surrounding cities culminating in Huntington.
