Murder suspect sent to mental institution
Beckley man Vincent Belcher, 25, charged with slaying his half brother Dennis Frazier in April 1995, will remain in a mental facility as courts find him competent. An Aug. 19 order shows all evaluations deem him incompetent to stand trial and his status as a ward of the state places him in inpatient care at William S. Sharpe Hospital in Weston until his condition changes. Belcher has repeatedly disrupted hearings, including an episode where he refused to bathe and claimed to be the "government" during proceedings.

Two-Vehicle Crash Injures Seven Near Maple Fork Road
Seven people were injured when a southbound vehicle collided with a turning car on U S Route 19 near Maple Fork Road on Monday night. Dorothy Smith and Christopher Wykle were involved, with three children among the passengers. All five in Wykle's car and Smith were taken to Raleigh General Hospital for minor injuries. Neither child restraints were used in Wykle's vehicle, and Smith received a citation for failing to yield. Smith’s car had front bumper damage. Wykle’s car was totaled.
