Two North Carolina residents, Christian Florent and Barbara Burton, were arraigned in Fayette County Magistrate Court on marijuana possession with intent to deliver. Bond set at $20,000 each after troopers pulled over a blue van at mile markers 83 and 53 on the West Virginia Turnpike.
HINTON The state dis missed an indictment against an Alderson woman charged in the hunting related death of her younger brother. Summers Prosecutor Mike Turner said Monday he dis missed the case against 18year old Donna Wells with prejudice, which means he cannot bring the charge again. Wells was indicted in March on one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Police said she and her boyfriend dropped off her younger brother, 15 year old George K. Wells, and his 13 year old friend to go hunting last Dec. 1. Officials say the 13 year old mistook Wells for a deer and shot him fatally in the chest. Turner said to prove the case, he would have to show that Donna Wells bore some duty to her brother and his friend. The evidence that she and her boyfriend drove the boys to the hunting site was not sufficient to show they acted in a way to cause a minor to commit an unlawful act. On June 5, Turner dismissed the same case against Wells boyfriend, 41 year old James Bowyer of Alderson. The charge is still pending against the 13 year old's father, Michael Ambler of Alderson.
