Charles Page Bryan, the United States ambassador to Japan, tendered his resignation to President Taft due to ill health from a carriage accident in Japan. He is staying at his home in Elimbur t Alabama receiving medical treatment.
The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Neal of 50 East Sycamore Street died at the family home on Monday and was buried in City cemetery on Tuesday.
Weather forecast for Denton and vicinity calls for clear to partly cloudy conditions tonight with frost expected toward early morning. Temperatures dip near freezing and rise gradually by Wednesday with light winds and dry skies.
Officers and directors listed include A J Nance as president and J R Christal as vice president with J C Coit as cashier and E D Curtis as assistant cashier. Directors named include Ed F Bates J H Paine A C Owsley and Dr J M Inge.
A fire at Texas Christian University in Waco last night damaged the girls dormitory and the mess hall. The total loss was around $40,000 with insurance of $40,900. The facilities were owned by private parties and the dormitory was being converted into a hospital.
President-elect Wilson stated he has not expressed opinions on an extra session and advised critics that governors must allow their subordinates to hold their own views. He added his fins have a right to their opinions, but he has none. Today's mail brought Gov. Wilson six rabbits' feet.
The Jess Pugh company of the Redpath Lyceum bureau drew an audience of eleven or twelve hundred Monday night. Chairs filled all spaces and many were turned away due to seating limits. Pugh’s readings and baritone solos impressed, Kipling pieces drew applause, Max the violinist offered Vienna Waltz renditions, and the committee may refuse more season tickets because of growing crowds.
Members of the local gun club participate in their regular weekly shoot this afternoon. Many sportsmen display improved skill at clay pigeon shooting with W. A. Taliaferro last week scoring 18 of 25 birds.
Premier Joz Canalegas was killed by Manuel Parding Zerrato Martin, aged 28, believed anarchist, as he entered the interior ministry for a cabinet meeting. Four shots fired. two struck behind the ear, causing instant death. The assassin then killed himself. Cavalegas led the Monarchical Democratic party and became premier in 1910.
The State Board of Regents visits the Normal colleges for a tour of inspection. Members from Austin Fort Worth Amarillo and Beau mont will examine buildings grounds and needs to guide improvements in the next Legislature. Dr W H Bruce will present topics for consideration to enhance the school.
Washington reports twice in 24 hours the private desk of Representative Henry of Texas was broken into and papers removed. An eighteen canceller check pack was missing in the first raid, with a torn lock and mixed papers evident after the second tampering. Henry inventories his letters and suspects no one but may uncover confidential money trust correspondence.
The four gunmen charged with Rosenthal's killing opened their trial in New York this morning. They seek to prove an alibi while early witnesses, including doctors, described bullets recovered from Rosenthal's brain.
Attorneys for John Beal Sneed sought a trial continuance citing missing defense witnesses. Judge Swayne denied the continuance as voir dire proceeded. Three key witnesses were fined 500 each with attachments for nonappearance. The trial was adjourned to Tuesday morning after further motions were ruled on.
Milwaukee November 12 John Schrank pleaded guilty to shooting Col Roosevelt last month and a commission was set to examine his sanity. He showed little concern for possible fifteen year liberty risk and said the crime was political rather than against humanity and he could take his medicine if punished hard.
Indianapolis November 12 Ortle E McManigal testified at the dynamite conspiracy trial recounting how he carried nitroglycerin on passenger trains and caused explosions in Cleveland Jersey City Pittsburg Omaha and Superior Wisconsin He named several labor union officials from Cleveland Detroit Indianapolis Milwaukee Duluth and San Francisco among those who knew he was hired by the I W U to blow up open shop construction.
A telegram from Greenville Tennessee reports Iva Wiggs died there Tuesday morning. His parents Mr and Mrs Wiggs had traveled to be with him. A later letter said he was improving before the sudden death. Survived by his wife and a two year old daughter. The body will be brought here for burial on Thursday.
New Orleans reports the Yazoo excursion train disaster left eighteen dead and ninety injured. Brake man Cunningham denies failing to flag the freight, claiming the passenger train was running too close to the freight.
Bullard Texas suffered an eight thousand dollar blaze that struck Gulf Telephone Co store and the Bullard warehouse early today. The fire's damage totaled three thousand dollars with Wilson's Grocery also listed among the losses.
Gary Indiana November 12 Six work men were killed by the explosion of 2000 pounds of dynamite at a pack house of the Aena Powder company plant near Gary. The blast was contained by the dynamite being stored in 100 pound lots, preventing a larger catastrophe.
Oklahoma City leads Guthrie in the state capital relocation ballot with 11 counties unofficially reported and a total margin of 3784 votes in favor of removing the capital, as of November 12.
