Dinamite explodes during transfer from barge to ship in Baltimore Harbor. About 340 tons detonated triggering a large blast. death toll may reach sixty with many wounded, some fatally, as rescue teams search the wreckage.
The British steamer Alumphine loaded with dynamite exploded in Baltimore wrecking the barge. Four men were killed and twenty five injured. More deaths followed as nearby vessels were dismantled and crews perished. the Jason suffered damaged upper works and three sailors died. The count of dead and fatally injured remains high with hundreds feared exposed to blasts.
