Associated Press dispatch from Waco Texas reports Ben Jones escaped from a county convict gang last night and attempted to reach Wilbur for Christmas. He waded into the Brazos river and sank in quicksands, nearly dying before rescue.
Dec 24 report: Edward Penh, an English airman, was killed when a heavy drop caused him to be dashed to death. Fellow crew and authorities investigated the fatal accident and its equipment failures.
Dalhart reports 12 degrees above zero with no snowfall locally though heavy snow covered areas south of the Canadian River. Cattlemen say range in good condition and cattle in fine shape as winter sets in. Weather forecast for Denton and vicinity calls for rising temperatures through Wednesday.

Early today an assailant tried to stab Prince Aritomo Yamagata, Japan’s Supreme Military Councillor, but failed. The attacker then attempted suicide, but palace guards stopped him and he was arrested after breaking into the Prince’s palace quarters.

San Antonio readers report Cande larilario Trevino a Mexican farmer fifteen miles east of the city was arrested on a charge of beating his wife to death with a club and injuring his eleven year old daughter with the same weapon. Neighbors say he attempted to haul the body away in a wagon before they captured him and summoned the sheriff.
In Galveston a Cleveland Ohio man A M Funk shot and seriously wounded his wife in a hotel room and then killed himself. His ten year old son fled the scene as a despondent note found in Funk's pocket explained his poor health.
