Two Men Sentenced In Fayette Circuit Court

Fayetteville reporters note two men were sentenced to the state penitentiary in Fayette Circuit Court. James Woods Glen Jean received one to five years for unlawful wounding of Eleanora Douglas. Rudolph Brown Minden got one to 10 years for probation violation and five years probation on a breaking and entering charge. Other pleas included Carl Gwinn Meadow Bridge for assault and battery with a $10 fine, Everett Hill New York City for unlawfully wounding his wife and seeking probation, and John Nelson Kirk Odd Hill for breaking and entering with probation sought. A separate trial for John Sidney Turner Charleston on moonshine possession was moved to Oct 2. Direct verdict of not guilty in Eddie Booker Winona rape case. Attendees at the West Virginia Synodical meeting in Oak Hill include Mrs R Hill and Mrs J N Jarrett Oak Hill, Mrs Woods Poling Mount Hope, Mrs J M McCauley Mount Hope, and Mrs W C Bishop Scarbro.

Bartley No 1 Team Wins First Aid Meet At Pineville

Bartley No. 1 from Island Creek Coal Company won first place at the annual first aid meeting held at Shuff Field Pineville. Crawford J. Wilson of the West Virginia Department of Mines presented an engraved plaque and prizes to the Bartley team. The Gary No. 2 team from United States Steel Corporation finished second and received sterling safety keys.

Dynamite Blast Injures Miners in McDowell County

A dynamite blast at a Squire area operation near McDowell County injured six miners. Bill Anderson and Stewart Deck were listed in critical condition at a local hospital, while Jeffrey Cooper was listed as satisfactory. Reed and Jack Anderson were treated and released.

Yangtze Bridge Opens Across Yangtze River at Hankow

Red China opened the first bridge across the Yangtze at Hankow. The twin deck structure spans a little more than a mile with a six lane highway on one deck and double railway tracks on the other. Reports say blasting involved more than a normal amount of dynamite.

Chad Bertelson To Speak To Fayette Mental Group

Chad M. Bertelson social worker at Beckley Mental Health Center will speak at the Fayette County Mental Health Chapter meeting in the Memorial Building Fayetteville at 8 pm Friday. He serves on the West Virginia Mental Health Division board and is affiliated with Laird Memorial Hospital Montgomery. Rev. Arthur Backus president will conduct the session and invite the public. An executive board meeting at 7 39 p.m. precedes the regular session.

Jean Ann Thompson, 10, daughter of Mr and Mrs Hubert T Thompson Route 1 Fayetteville, is hospitalized at Oak Hill after being struck on the forehead by a dart while five other children played nearby around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
