Dorsey Says He Told Peregoy His Intentions

Raleigh County reported six disease cases for the week ending September 21. one syphilis and five gonorrhea. E. Van Dorsey of Beckley said he resigned after failing to report at the start of the school year. Peregoy, Woodrow Wilson High principal, said he would not teach there this year.

Farmers Must Sign Up Before Oct 15 for Wheat Exemption

Raleigh County farmers may grow up to 30 acres of wheat without penalties if they file an application showing disposal plans before October 15 or the 1958 planting time. The County ASC warns that those over 30 acres or missing the signup face penalties and loss of exemption. The rule requires the entire crop to be used on the farm for seed, direct human or animal feed, with ownership stipulations for livestock or poultry.

New 90 acre feed-wheat exemption starts 1958 crops

The provision applies to 1958 and future crops but not to 1957 and earlier wheat. County ASC office offers details and participation applications. Evangelist Jimmy Hodges from Chattanooga Tennessee will deliver messages during meetings. Services start at 7 30 p m daily and end with the annual Homecomings.

Glen Morgan Church Schedules A Film

The Glen Morgan Union Church will show the religious film Seventeen this Saturday at 7 p.m. A spokesman described the film as an unusual story about high school students with events that interest youth and a Gospel message for all ages. No admission will be charged.

Enlistees and Re-enlistees Mobilize for Navy and Great Lakes

A wave of 12 men enlist in the U S Navy at the local Recruiting Station this month. Re-enlistees assign to Washington D C include Larry B Hurst of Covel and Warren C Houchins of Bluestone. The other ten head to Great Lakes. Names include Glenn D Riffe Glenn C Stanley Lee R Spencer Lewis E Halstead Jackie R Hundley Paul Gillenwater Rob ert L Martin Jr Maynard W Perry and George A Deitz. A fall revival opens at Glen Morgan Union Church on Sept 30 and runs through Oct 13.

NAACP Seeks More Members at State Conference

Raleigh County NAACP ranks third in West Virginia for membership. A membership drive connected to a free fund drive runs through October to support national court actions. Funds come from donations and sale of Christmas seals. George White reported on the conference with Clarence Mitchell urging branches to boost membership and civic turnout. T. G. Nutter noted near full integration across counties except one. Also announced King David Lodge No 18 McAlpin special meeting Saturday at 5 p.m.
