Capitol Hearing Set On Proposed Justice Dam

PINEVILLE RNS The Public Works Committee of Congress will hear pro and con on the Justice Dam reservoir on the Guyandotte River Thursday. James Kee announced the hearing at a Wyoming County Courtroom meeting. The dam could be financed this fiscal year for planning and engineering on a 6.5 million project. It would take about seven years to complete and employ about 400 during construction. Rail relocations and moving towns would extend the timeline. Supporters cite recreational and flood protection benefits for Wyoming County and surrounding areas. Opponents from several coal, utility, and rail firms will be heard, with Wyoming, Logan, Mingo, Lincoln and Cabell counties sending delegations. Kee noted no Wyoming county residents oppose the project and the question session drew no opposition.
