Raleigh County Man, 99 Ready For 100th Year

A Raleigh County man Floyd Caldwell of Dry Creek will celebrate his 100th birthday on December 13. Born in 1857 in Mercer County, he has lived in four states and held roles as postmaster and farmer. He remembers Civil War era hardships and has a large family including grandchildren and great grandchildren. The feature also notes musical performances at Glen Rogers High School and a community church program.

18 Year Old Defends Suit Over Route 61 Auto Crash

An 18-year-old defendant in a Pett County damage suit presents his own defense in Circuit Court. Clifford Hess, represented by Pat Hamilton, sues Gerald Martin of Oak Hill for $500, claiming Martin drifted across the center line on U S Route 61 on April 16, injuring Hess. Martin told the court he will represent himself.

Fayette County Senior Girl Scouts met at the Fayce Recreation Building to learn about the West Virginia Planning Board meeting held in Fairmont on October 3. Church Extension Heard At Presbyterian Meet

The Rev H R Gladney of Hico spoke on Church Extension at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church Tuesday. He linked 20 years of home missions to the North Fayette Field comprising Ames Hico and Chitty. Attendees included members from all three churches with invocation by Rev O C Landrum and music by Mrs D H Thorne. Refreshments followed in Fellowship Hall.

March of Missions devotional at Oak Hill Methodist Church

The Women’s Society of Christian Service at Oak Hill Methodist Church held a devotional titled The March of Missions. Mary E. Hill Circle presented it with Mrs. John Scott leading, assisted by several members. President Mrs. Robert Flack led the business session and urged attendance at World Day of Self Denial and Prayer on Oct 30. A study class was announced for Oct 30 at 7:30 p.m. Donations included $25 to the Dorothy Lee Fund. Wesleyan Service Guild provided refreshments.

PTA School Sessions Held By Whiteville Council

The Boone County PTA Council conducted a School of Instruction in Madison with county representatives. Mrs Higgens Snodgrass, regional director, led sessions while Mrs Willian Vance presided as council president. Topics included National Policy aboard the USS Philippine Seas task force and the PTA Fleet issues.

Whitesville Eastern Star Reports on Grand Chapter Meeting

Members of Whitesville Orderly the Eastern Star Chapter 142 hear a report from Mrs. Jean Salamy worthy matron. The group will convene Thursday at 7 30 p m. Salamy and other members attended Grand Chapter sessions in Charleston where Meg Evelyn Spangler was grand page. Nine members attended a gathering in Beckley at the Masonic Hall honoring W C Mullins with attendees listed.
