Church Extension at St. Andrew's Church Waves Plan

The St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Kelly Ave begins a new addition to expand the church building. The project adds choir and altar space and pew room while converting the kitchen into a women's restroom and dressing area for choir members and altar boys.

Engaged: Miss Edna Earl Amerson Plans Nov wedding

Pineville reports the betrothal of Miss Edna Earl Amerson to Francis Marion Toney Jr. The couple, both from Georgia, announce a November 77 ceremony at Mitchell Springs Baptist Church. Amerson, a Sandersville High School graduate, studied at Georgia State College for Women. Toney, a West Virginia University forestry graduate, works with Gain Woodlands Corp. of Savannah and resides in Warrenton.

Three Youth Schedule Talks in Whitesville for United Nations Week

Whitesville NS hosts three delegates from Theta Rho Girls and Junior Odd Fellows to discuss the United Nations. Nancy Wood and Mary Armstrong from Theta Rho along with David Harless of the Junior Odd Fellows speak at the Odd Fellows Hall on Monday Oct 21 at 7 20 p.m. They then address the Whitesville Rotary Club on Thursday Oct 24 at 7 p.m. at Whitesville Junior High School after visiting New York for a week.

Mount Hope Women’s Christian Temperance Union met at the Free Will Baptist Church Kilsyth for their annual dues dinner with 36 members present. President Mrs Luther Lewellyn spoke of her trip to the state convention in Fairmont and an institute was planned for November at the Baptist Temple. Jerry Hall, 16, of Lynco, was admitted to Stevens Clinic at Welch Friday for reduction of fractures in his left leg. A student at Oceana High School, he sustained injuries during a football game.

Military Men In News At Home and Overseas

Several Beckley area service members are noted in outgoing and overseas assignments. Sgt Billy Bolen will serve about nine to ten months in Greenland with Trans Arct ic Group 9251 after leaving Fort Dix. His wife Sylvia stays with relatives in Abney with their year old son David Wayne. Two Beckleyans join Lackland AFB Phase II basic training.
