The St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Kelly Ave begins a new addition to expand the church building. The project adds choir and altar space and pew room while converting the kitchen into a women's restroom and dressing area for choir members and altar boys.
Pineville reports the betrothal of Miss Edna Earl Amerson to Francis Marion Toney Jr. The couple, both from Georgia, announce a November 77 ceremony at Mitchell Springs Baptist Church. Amerson, a Sandersville High School graduate, studied at Georgia State College for Women. Toney, a West Virginia University forestry graduate, works with Gain Woodlands Corp. of Savannah and resides in Warrenton.
Whitesville NS hosts three delegates from Theta Rho Girls and Junior Odd Fellows to discuss the United Nations. Nancy Wood and Mary Armstrong from Theta Rho along with David Harless of the Junior Odd Fellows speak at the Odd Fellows Hall on Monday Oct 21 at 7 20 p.m. They then address the Whitesville Rotary Club on Thursday Oct 24 at 7 p.m. at Whitesville Junior High School after visiting New York for a week.
At a Boone County Board of Education meeting the bus drivers were granted a ten dollar per month salary increase, amounting to about a 3 percent rise. Attending were President Joey Myers Nan ce Board member Ashley Cook and S. J. ly thon among others.

Mount Hope Women’s Christian Temperance Union met at the Free Will Baptist Church Kilsyth for their annual dues dinner with 36 members present. President Mrs Luther Lewellyn spoke of her trip to the state convention in Fairmont and an institute was planned for November at the Baptist Temple. Prayer was offered by Arthur Cheek and Rev C W Combs. Readouts list numerous attendees and visitors from Ameagle Doroth y Colcord, with local family visits noted and illnesses mentioned at Charleston General Hospital.
A senior, Miss Oxendale, is head majorette and Tri H I Y member. Miss Painter, runner up, served as honor attendant. Front row lists Anna Mackey Linda Painter the queen Deloris Ford. Back row shows Johnie Gray Eddie Harding Jack Pettit Richie McGuffin.
Miss Donna Sue Minnick and John E. Elmore married by Rev. Edwin Hale in a 6 p.m. ceremony at the Oak Hill Nazarene parsonage. The bride wore a blue lace formal dress with a rose corsage. They will reside at 3522 N Wilton Chicago after a Chicago honeymoon. Attendants included family members and Sue Lowery.
Pax notices list multiple weekend visits across towns including Prosperity Scarbro Cittsville and Baltimore with families hosting relatives from Toledo and other areas. Clarence Lockhart a 33 year old from Tires Fork received treatment at Stevens Clinic Welch Friday after both ankles were injured when caught between five limbers in an accident.
Nine Oak Hill Boy Scouts from Troop 117 with scoutmaster John Hill toured Dunbar State Industrial School. They attended junior leadership classes swam watched movies. Attendees included William Burrus Richard Dixon Buddy Parker Mack Parrish Elihue Kincaid Tom Hinte and Don Waddell.
Rev J B Dryfield of First Methodist Beckley will attend the annual national Methodist Council of Evangelism meeting in Minneapolis Minnesota from Thursday through October 22. Delegates include ministers and lay and youth reps. They will discuss evangelism needs opportunities and responsibilities with focus on long range strategy.
Jerry Hall, 16, of Lynco, was admitted to Stevens Clinic at Welch Friday for reduction of fractures in his left leg. A student at Oceana High School, he sustained injuries during a football game.
Several Beckley area service members are noted in outgoing and overseas assignments. Sgt Billy Bolen will serve about nine to ten months in Greenland with Trans Arct ic Group 9251 after leaving Fort Dix. His wife Sylvia stays with relatives in Abney with their year old son David Wayne. Two Beckleyans join Lackland AFB Phase II basic training. Pvt Frank D Weed and Pvt Antonio C Rich attend basic training and Woodrow Wilson High School graduates. George Thomas Wagner is assigned to Kingsville after training at Bainbridge Naval Center. Pvt John D Kimbro arrives in Germany with Battery A 291st Field Artillery. A survey specialist, Kimbro completed training at Fort Jackson. Airmen William E Terry and James Lewis Basham complete six month Reserve forces active duty tour at Fort Leonard Wood after basic training. Pvt Lee L Osborne graduates training after four week course at Fort Knox.
