OAK HILL The Fayette county chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis reports 2594 dollars spent in 1946 for hospitalization and care of polio patients. Bernard Rocke, chapter chairman, notes five polio cases in 1948 with one released and four under orthopedic hospital treatment. He calls for cooperation in the March of Dimes drive and pledges local aid for polio victims.
Oak Hill Reverend A A Angle of Oak Hill conducted a quiet lunch hour double wedding at Oak Hill Methodist Church. The ceremony joined two McDowell County couples Hubert H Wall with Marion C Peake and William C Parnell with Katherine Peake. The minister, at Beckley for a district Methodist conference, read the rites and then joined the conference crowd for lunch.
Oak Hill Rotary club voted to sponsor Boy Scout troop 125 at a Tuesday night meeting in the Hotel Hill. Mrs. James W. Perry, president of the Women's Society of Christian Service, discussed society activities. Attendees included 39 members and three guests: Bob Garvin of Alderson, B. E. Downs of Welch, and Louie Krauss of Logan.
Fay ette County Negro 4-H clubs will exhibit at the Scarbro cannery on Saturday, November 23, with Mrs. Nell Reynolds as club agent announce. I. S. Leece of DuBois High School leads the program. All clubs are urged to contribute canning, sewing, arts and crafts, and raw vegetables. ribbons are expected for prize entries.
Two Oak Hill men were named as officers in the state Masonic order at the 76th annual Royal Arch Masons convention in Parkersburg. J. W. Daugherty was named grand royal arch captain and H. A. Berry was named grand treasurer.
Funeral services for Harriett Elizabeth Coleman 78 will be held Friday at 2 pm at her Scarbro residence. The Brethren Church member died after a weeklong illness. Burial in family cemetery. Survived by ten descendants including Wayman Ingram Branch Clifton Oak Hill Caine Azel Luther Burnwell Maggie Gray Thelma Asbury Ruby Scott. Body moved from Tyree Funeral Home to her home today at 11:30 a.m.

Mr and Mrs Tony Platt purchased the home of Mr and Mrs S A Cody who died yesterday for their new residence in Roanne Virginia The Codys had lived in Fayetteville and nearby areas for many years

A Fayette county chapter of the West Virginia Young Republicans League was reorganized at Oak Hill city hall last night with Rufus C. Hart of Oak Hill as president. Kenonets H. Marin, state director, presided as temporary chairman. Other officers named include Tom Shepherd of Montgomery as vice-president Jance Nastits born to great couple.
Oak Hill veteran George J. Moreau buys a house and 50 by 300 foot lot in Check Addition for 5000 dollars from R. J. Meeks and wife. Oak Hill growth noted with many Fayette county land transfers including three lots in Municipal Addition and other quick transactions across the county.
George J. Titer, president of District 29 United Mines Workers of America, endorsed the Oak Hill High School band drive for 7000. He met band director Paul Mackey and said locals will support the cause as miners’ children attend the school. Letters were sent to about 12 locals urging donations for instruments and equipment.

Five Mullens state liquor store employees, all veterans, were suspended by district supervisor H W Dalton, amid claims the action was tied to refusing to donate to the Democratic campaign. Manager Joe Jones says the suspensions target a political issue and that clerks faced pressure to contribute 60 to 90 dollars. auditors found records checked thoroughly.

The group of about 300 adjourned after a devotional, a duet, and a program by Mrs. John Miller with dessert served by the refreshment committee.
Sgt. James Bower of Saulsville serves as military policeman at U S Air Forces Station Tulln Vienna, working with the European Air Transport Service which handles air movement for U S military in Europe. Bower joined in 1945, shipped overseas in November, rising from private to sergeant in five months, previously MP at EATS HQ in Wiesbaden.
Mullens resident Perry C. Cook opens the Cook Furniture and Wardware store on Sycamore Street in a building owned by Cook, formerly Sands and Company. Cook has long business history including Pineville 1913 to 1919 and Mullens since 1920.
In Mullens at Taylor-Dearing hospital a seven pound baby girl named Mary Ann Morris was born Tuesday evening to Mr. and Mrs. Willard W. Morris of Moran apartments. It is the couple’s third child. Mrs. F. D. Lusk of South Mullens is listed at home with an ear infection.
Maynard’s $1,000 bond was declared forfeit last Thursday after he failed to appear before Judge Riffe on plea day. He was jailed when he turned up in the Circuit Clerk’s office this morning after learning a capias had been issued against him.
The Rev and Mrs Morris D Warren of Richmond Va stayed overnight with Mr and Mrs Gerald Snyder on Church Street. Warren, a former Oak Hill First Presbyterian pastor, recently returned from Japan where he served as an army chaplain in World War II. They departed yesterday for his mother’s home in Richmond. Uncle Jesse Halsey of Cook Fork remains in serious condition after a hospital stay in Mullens. Mr and Mrs O H Martin of Mullens depart tonight for St Louis to visit their son O He Martin Jr at army finance school. they plan to return Monday.
