Three year old Jerry Burgess son of Mr and Mrs Ray Burgess of Summer Hill sustained a fractured skull when he fell from his father's car near Oak Hill city limits. Police said the car was moving about 30 miles per hour. Oak Hill hospital staff reported his condition as fair.
Howard J. Bunch of Oak Hill and Garland L. Dempsey of Garten, at Fort Hayes in Columbus today for pre enlistment examinations with Sgt. L. H. Small reporting. Both volunteers seek 18 months unassigned duty. Bunch cites three years and two months Army service in the Pacific with multiple ribbons and the Good Conduct award, Dempsey notes Navy service of two years nine months with Pacific theatre and American Theatre and Victory medals. They proceed to swearing into the regular Army.
The Second Advent Christian church in Pax will hold homecoming Sunday with all day services. The program includes Sunday School at 10 am, special singing and speeches.
Mt Hope resident Sir George Howard Sweeney, son of Henry B Sweeney, reports by phone from Tokyo that Navy rations include mutton he dislikes. Sweeney, a veteran of Atlantic and Pacific service, plans a major cruise and expects to visit China before returning to the United States.
The Blume family of Lookout turned out over 200 gallons of sorghum molasses last week at the old Blume homeplace. G. O. Blume oversaw the process with help from brothers and sisters, while neighbors visited to watch and purchase. Dozens were turned away due to high demand as cane was cut and processed from Monday through Friday using tractor and horse powered equipment, evaporating pans, and a tested spigot system.
Mount Hope Lions Club entertained 23 Montgomery Lions at its regular meeting before the Mount Hope Montgomery football game. Otis G. Stewart of Montgomery spoke and acted as tail twister while Kennedy, former district governor and Lions International chair, gave three talks on district Lion activity. Guests viewed the new Mt Hope Lions Clubhouse before the game at Mt Hope Stadium.
Fayetteville reports a flurry of property deeds filed at the county clerk with numerous transfers. Transactions include Mitchell Haddad to Jack Alford for lots in Chariton Heights, Patton to Kessler on Meadow Bridge, and many others across Oak Hill Ansted Meadow Bridge and Deepwater, reflecting broad land and lot sales at varying prices.
Oak Hill Mrs. Gracie Burgess announces the marriage of her daughter Vivian Marie Burgess to Herbert Jones of Minden. The double ring ceremony happened July 13 at Rev. RT Mallory’s Fayetteville home with Mrs. Burgess and Mrs. Jones in attendance, details of dress and corsage noted.
Two Oak Hill Baptist Church mission circles met last night at 17 30. The T 4 Fitzgerald Group in Jones Memorial classroom, presided by Mrs C A Walton, featured Louise Tully speaking on Home Missions Among the Negro Race. Guests included Miss E Warden. The Bernice Cross group met at Mrs Gilmer Cross home with prayer and readings by several members. Next meeting set for November 14.
Oak Hill Junior Woman's Club sponsors a benefit at Oak Hill High School on Wednesday October 23. Al Snyder the magician will perform with a student musical program led by Margaret Jasper. Proceeds aid development of Oak Hill recreation park with matinee for students and evening show for the public.

A surprise stork shower was hosted last night at the Second Advent Christian church in Pax honoring pastor's wife Mrs George B. Saunders. Attendees included numerous named ladies and family members, with gifts sent by several local women.
Three divorce suits were filed in circuit court here yesterday. Plaintiffs include Eliza beth Ida Todd against Charles Todd and Frankie Chilner against Lawrences Childers and William G. Thompson.

Fred L. Clay of Mullens is at Fort Hayes Ohio undergoing a physical for re enlistment in the regular Army after joining at Beckley station. A veteran of about six years, he previously served with the Criminal Investigation Department in the European theater.

Mt Hope man Howard Goings aged 133 was hospitalized with a dislocated hip and cuts after a Friday 2 am crash at MacDonald near Butler's garage. Police called the damage to the Chevrolet rear of a truck a near fatal incident and a miracle he survived.
Mrs. Ella Callas Way and daughter Elizabeth Syme of Beckley have returned home after visiting Dell and Mrs. Cooke in Pineville. Cranberries are the chief export crop of Massachusetts.
Mullens police detachment launches a road safety campaign after six highway fatalities this year in Wyoming County. Extra patrols, lectures, and pamphlets are given to driver license examinees as troopers stress stopping distances and pedestrian safety. During exams, ten passed and three failed, said Cpl. R. D. Platt.
Winston J P Fowlkes 50 a former Mullens resident died yesterday at his Roanoke Virginia home from a heart ailment He worked as a clerk at Virginian Railway electric shops in Mullens and later served as chief clerk at Roanoke shops He was active in Masonic bodies and the Wyoming County American Legion He is survived by wife a son a daughter and brother Thomas Fowlkes of Princeton Funeral set for Oakley Chapel Roanoke at 2 p m Saturday with burial at Sherwood Memorial Park Cemetery between Roanoke and Salem
Mullens residents head to North Dakota for a two week pheasant hunting trip joined by Al Perry’s brother Francis on leave from the Navy and Jennings Clay in Barboursville. Also listed are Floyd Voors and family from Vancour, recent Mullens residents.
Pineville report says Mullins Chapter No. 190 Women of the Moose met with 18 members. A Halloween dance was planned for October 26. Regular dances will continue each Saturday from 9 to 12 as before.

The plan would define who may practice law, curb unqualified helpers, set service rates, and modernize state and national bar associations. Senior Mullens High students Jim Wade and Jack Frank attended as guests.
The Wyoming county chapter of the American Red Cross sponsors an advanced first aid course at Pineville High School starting Monday at 7 p.m. George M. Nelly teaches. the program runs nightly through the week until the 12 hour review course is complete. All who have taken advanced or instructor courses are urged to attend.
The Beckley Mercantile Board postponed its regular monthly meeting due to a quorum shortage. Secretary W R Fugitt said today only a few members appeared despite President Elmer Davis calling the session for 7 30 pm. No meeting will be held unless urgent business arises. another session is unlikely until next month.
