Mullens Superintendent W C Bailey said the school board is proceeding with plans for a new Mullens High School gymnasium and athletic field after a Rotary club meeting renewed efforts to secure funding and land. Youth Wounded While Hunting Accident Near Clear Fork
Fourteen year old Johnny Dalton, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Dalton, of near Clear Fork, was wounded by a shotgun in a hunting accident yesterday morning and is listed in fair condition at Taylor-Dearing hospital. He suffered abdominal and right hand injuries requiring removal of four fingers after the gun discharged while he laid it on a log at daybreak during a hunt with two companions.

Mullens city leaders met Wednesday to finalize a new map to aid mail delivery. City engineer Jimmie James and assistant Harry Williams will draw the map at 100 to 1 scale with a 200 to 1 inset for the business district, due by November 15 for post office approval. He joined in 1941, re enlisted for three years, and served mainly in the Pacific with 22 landing operations and 17 battle stars. He served on four ships including the USS Washington, USS USNAOS, and USS Webster. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Sizemore of Pierpoint.

Hearing Set in Charleston on Matlens liquor store case
State Liquor Control Commission Chairman A. K. Canterbury announced a hearing in Charleston for Tuesday October 22 at 1 30 p m requested by five discharged Matlens liquor store employees. Former manager Joe Jones and four others asked for the hearing but Jones later said it was withdrawn, saying the discharge was a political issue. Canterbury noted the dismissals were due to irregularities in liquor sales.
