Fayette county board of education rejected a $72,115 bid for constructing an elementary school in East End Oak Hill. The board called the bid excessive and declined to reaward to the submitting firm, with plans to readvertise the project.
Fayetteville board approves installing gas and telephone in the study for Rev. C. W. Paskel, the new pastor who arrived from Bramwell in 1931 ministry service across several counties. He will keep study hours 9 am to 12 noon daily and can be reached at 197. The meeting also appointed officers and referred surplus church items for disposal.
Mrs. Mary O Massie of Jumping Branch died at her daughter Ora McGray’s Fayetteville home at 2 15 AM after an extended illness. Born May 10 1865 in Raleigh County she was a Missionary Baptist and survived by seven sons and numerous grandchildren. The body remains at Alley Funeral Home pending arrangements.
Fayette County Board of Education voting to retain the Oak Hill Vocational Trade School endorses expanding enrollment. A committee led by Ot Gunnee will evaluate conditions and report on meeting requirements while A J Frye notes new students and courses, including machine work and welding. Annual canning center operations shift to twice weekly Tuesdays and Thursdays under Mrs. Amick due to shortages and supply flow.
The Nuttall District Song C tion plans its nest gathering on the first song in November. Members met at a church Sunday afternoon with Rev Harry J ms and Mrs dayzater present. Other attendees included Mr and Mrs Rey C Karickhof and two s Dennis McCutchern with Mrs R Blume and Mr and Mrs El r Harrell.
Fayette county board of education offers a 23 dollar reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of those stealing from visiting athletic teams. Officials say misconduct at Fayette county games has embarrassed out of county teams, urging principals and coaches to protect visiting squads and call local police aid when needed.

Fayetteville war widow Mary Rombow received a $63 donation from American Legion Post 1, bringing her total aid to about $263 since the Sept 25 blaze that destroyed her home. She already had $200 from the post and $20 in other donations, with only a $1,500 bank loan insured. The funds are to start rebuilding as she seeks additional support.
The County Tuberculosis Association reports September activities in Fayetteville including a clinic with 92 people altered, 77 X rays, 10 tests, 10 examinations, and 13 office visits. Four new cases referred for follow up, 93 contacts, 28 definite cases, and 35 homes visited with 143 individuals supervised.
Oak Wil Lions announce a Ladies Night at Tetel Halt tonight with club members promoting the event. The gathering features guest speakers and aims to boost attendance and support for the Lions club activities in the area.
Civic clubs the Chamber of Commerce and District 29 officials back a fundraising drive for Oak Hill High School band which aims to raise 7000 for instruments and equipment. Band director Paul Mackey cites dwindling membership and plans bake sales dances and unions appeals to reach the goal. Local groups already raised 1787 with 1461 for instruments and 200 for repairs.
Two Page County war veterans undergo medical examinations at Fort Hayes Ohio today before re enlisting in the U S Army. Orville B Kelley a two year eight month Army veteran asks for 18 months unassigned duty and lists campaigns in Normandy Northern France Ardennes Rhineland and Central Europe plus four medals and ribbons. A former Navy man Rich H Keffer also seeks 18 months unassigned duty with service of about five years and nine months. he is tied to a Fayetteville family with a newborn who died in St Petersburg Florida.
Mr and Mrs Carl Twyman return to Fayetteville and set up home in an apartment over the Fayette Mercantile Co. store. He formerly served as bookkeeper for New River and Pocahontas Consolidated Coat Co at the Terry A Unden office, and she worked for Mahan Bacon White now Mahan White Higans and Laird. They have a five year old daughter.
The Wyoming County Singing Convention sponsors the annual October festival at the Wyoming County courthouse starting at 1 pm. Invited quartets from Raleigh McDowell and Logan counties will join more than a dozen Wyoming County quartets, and the public may attend with no admission charge.
In a ring ceremony at the bride's home in Kopperston on September 21 at 2 p.m. Miss Mae Justice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emory Justice, married Thomas Rollins, son of Mrs. Maggie C. Rollins. The Rev. Wayne Rollins conducted the nuptial service. The bride, Oceana High School alumna, wore a black and grey wool suit with white roses. the groom, also an Oceana graduate, served 3.5 years in the U.S. Army and is employed by Koppers Coal Co. at Kopperston. A wedding supper followed, with guests including family and neighbors.
State Road Commission repaired a cave in on Dee 73ans Avenue Monday night. The 4 by 5 foot, 10 inch deep sunken area was blamed on water seepage and undermining over 25 years. After repair the section still settles with a slight drop evident.
The Mullens Sub Deb club will admit 11 new members this year bringing total to 40. Mary Gore president announced initiation set for October 19 from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Civic clubhouse. Names of the new members withheld pending final acceptance.
Seven Wyoming county veterans discharged last week were injured in a Peach Creek automobile crash. Luther Napier Jr. of Hatcher is treated at Logan General for a broken leg and other injuries. Sheldon Hailey, driver, was released after treatment. A female passenger remains in serious condition with a fractured skull. another female occupant escaped injury.
Altar Society of St. John's Catholic Church will sponsor a spaghetti dinner on October 17 from 3 to 9 pm at the Civic Clubhouse. Plates cost 1 each with proceeds toward a new organ. Society members Cassinelli Noce D Antoni Califo Amiline Thomas will prepare the meal.
Local citizens and Scout officials met Tuesday night to plan a Cub Scout pack. Guy Amato, Field Executive, outlined requirements while women agreed to study roles for Den Mothers and Den Chiefs with training to be provided. A committee and club master will be chosen at a special meeting next week.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Mullins residence for Glenna Mae Mullins five months old daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Mullins of Indian Creek who died in a Welch hospital Sunday Burial was in Indian Ridge Cemetery Survived by parents two sisters Vernie and Ramona.
