City sewer manholes spurt after heavy rain prompt city action
A long complaint from N G Kambouris of Craft Street prompted the Beckley City Council to address sewer problems after a recent downpour. Kambouris’ representative described a manhole overflow large enough to bury a table and horse, with garbage scattered across his yard. Street Commissioner Sterling Lee explained he loosens covers to relieve pressure during storms and noted lines are undersized. Council assigned Lee and James Lowe to inspect a ditch near Sylvia school and plan drainage work on City Avenue in front of Quality Lumber.
