Tow er Concrete Co. holds the contract as Calvin Griffith and Alva Bowling remove dirt for a year round rink. James B. Kessinger, Beckley Recreation Commission chairman, says the area will host two tennis games and four basketball games simultaneously.
In a Garden City farm home the four Clutter family members Herbert 48 Bonnie 45 Nancy 16 and Kenyon 15 were bound hand and foot and shot over the weekend. The case remains unsolved with investigators pursuing leads in a vast wheat country.
In Courtland Virginia an Irish ambassador to the United States John Hearne spoke at a Zion AME Church service expressing sorrow for the death of Jes sie Hamlin 56 struck by his son Davids car. Listen as the ambassador pledged government help to the Hamlin family and emphasized it was an accident.

Charleston AP reports the Auditor's Office reminds 690 state, county and municipal governmental units of a new social security tax increase. The rate rises to 3 percent of the first 4800 in annual wages, with units required to match the amount, up from 2 1/2 percent on the first 800 this year. The office oversees government social security matters.

Dock Handy 74 of Beckley died at 10 p m Sunday after a stroke. Born April 7 1885 in Wilkes County North Carolina he was a retired farmer and had lived in Beckley since 1937. Survived by son Robert Lynn Ind daughter Mrs Roy Lusk Spanishburg three brothers and two sisters all in North Wilkesboro North Carolina. Services Tuesday at 2 p m at Bailey Funeral Home Princeton with Rev L A Dorsey officiating burial Bowling Cemetery Spanishburg pallbearers grandsons.
Sen Jennings Randolph announces open public hearings here Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Criminal Courtroom. An assistant called Beckley to invite anyone wishing to present information or hear testimony to attend.
In a hearing, Underwood cites more than 33 million dollars of state aid planned for next year and says Congress should resolve the road dilemma soon. He notes 28,165 West Virginians, 7.9 percent of the insured labor force, drew unemployment compensation in October. Randolph adds that chronic unemployment stems from miner displacement by automation and cites employer-employee agreement in other industries on displaced workers' responsibilities.
In Raleigh County Circuit Court today Jack Thomas sues William R Clark and son William R Clark Jr to recover 1150 claiming a jeep valued at 800 was included in the station inventory sold in April 1958. Clark wavered on dates and inventory copies. trial followed a hung jury from a previous session.
Jurors for the Raleigh County Circuit Court November term were split into three groups after 12 jurors were impaneled this morning. A third were excused until 9 a.m. Monday and the remainder ordered back at 3:15 p.m. today. Judge Norman Knapp said groups will each serve about five days.
Police report two juveniles robbed a drive-in movie ticket officeSunday night and fled in a hotrod. The getaway car bore a red Wanted sign on its rear.
In Wyoming County Circuit Court James A. Estep 32 of Oceana faces a death penalty request for the January 28 murder of Eldon Dennis Elkins 42 of Oceana. Trial began 10:15 am, adjourned for jurors, prosecutors and defense counsel, with special prosecutor R D Bailey hired by the victim’s family and James C Lyons leading Estep’s defense.
Two teenagers died in hunting accidents in the state along with a pedestrian struck by a truck. Nathan Wimner, 14, was found shot in the woods near Hettie Braxton County after a misstep while hunting. Roger F. Hall, 16, disappeared while crossing Worthington Creek and drowned. Sammy L. Thompson, 15, was killed walking home when a truck struck him near Princeton. Additional traffic deaths included Kenneth Knight, 21, on West Virginia 4 near Gasaway, and Waitman Shamblin, 41, a passenger in a Clay-Spencer car.
Raymond Whitlow of Skelton, 50, was charged by City Police with driving to the left of the center line after a two car collision on South Kanawha Street near Johnny's Gulf Station at 9 40 a m today. He had a bruised forehead and sprained leg, treated at Beck ley Memorial Hospital and released. Joyce Elaine Sue of Glen Daniel was the driver of the second car and suffered bruises. Property damage was about $1 500.
A new born boy was found buried near a shallow grave outside Wheeling by Joseph Hohman while bulb digging. A plastic bag, newspapers, a shopping bag and women’s underwear were scattered nearby. Coroner William Hagedorn ordered an autopsy to determine time of death.
Alfred Lee Collins and Phillip David Stoots, both charged with breaking and entering four businesses, waived preliminary hearing and were held to await grand jury action under $4,000 total bond per youth. Magistrate W A Burke set $1,000 bond per charge. Also, Lewis Levels of Beckley faced moonshine and drunk charges, fined $100 and sentenced to 30 days in jail plus $10 fine.
L. W. Pribble of Rochester Pennsylvania an engineering expert in comprehensive planning will speak at a joint meeting of the County Court and City Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday at 1 15 p m. He will cover urban and rural zoning redevelopment and planning. The County Court seeks input from farm women's clubs rural development and the clean up campaign.
The Justice Department filed suits in Memphis challenging the validity of a white primary conducted last August 1 in Fayette County Tennessee. The action, brought against the Democratic Executive Committee of Fayette County under the Civil Rights Act of 1957, marks the first court action dealing with alleged racial discrimination in an election.
