James A. Estep 32 of Oceana changed his plea from not guilty to guilty of second degree murder in Wyoming County Circuit Court. He received five to 18 years in the state penitentiary as the state pursued the death penalty. The trial included juror selection and a view of the crime scene in Oceana.
In Raleigh County Circuit Court a two day trial centers on whether barking dogs cause hives. Mrs. Scot tie Lester and Glen Morgan sue neighbor Beulah L Parsons over a collie farm for 4000 dollars. A taped barking recording was ruled inadmissible.
A Wyoming County Circuit Court jury was selected to hear the state against Bessie Bell 54 of Black Eagle charged with the Aug 23 murder of Leonard Berry 39 also of Black Eagle. Bell’s attorney is D Grove Moler. Berry was shot twice with a .38 pistol and Bell said Berry charged him with an open knife. Court adjourned shortly before noon. jurors to report back at 1 p.m.
Temperatures fell to the teens statewide with 10 above in Wheeling Bluefield and Elkins. Huntington logged 15 the coldest date record with a 16 previously in 1993. Morgantown Parkersburg Charleston Martinsburg and others ranged from 12 to 16 as the Weather Bureau expected a break tomorrow and no snow was reported.
