A C Harvey Retired Water Official Dies
Andrew Calvin Harvey 80 of 312 Third Ave died at 7:30 am in a nursing home after an extended illness. He served on Beckley Water Co board since 1928 and was its first superintendent retiring in 1960. He was a longtime customer of Beckley National Bank, born June 12 1882 in Christian Ridge Mercer County. He was a deacon emeritus at First Baptist Church, taught Sunday School 40 years, and joined Gideon. He lived a life of civic and church service.

Northeast Front Sees Heavy Fighting With China
NEW DELHI UP I heavy fighting broke out on two sectors of the northeastern front between Indian troops and invading Communist China. A Defense Ministry spokesman said Chinese forces were killed near Jang in NEFA western area and at least 15 Chinese were killed or wounded in an eastern clash near the Burma border. The report followed Prime Minister Nehru’s remarks that India would not negotiate with Peiping until forces are driven from the border regions. He warned the conflict could last years and thanked the United States and Britain for unconditional military aid. He also noted requests for help from other friendly countries, including the Soviet Union and France.
