Grover Worrell 67 Dies in Mullens Funeral Planned

Funeral services for Grover Cleveland Worrell, 67, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Methodist Church Mullens. Worrell, a former Wyoming County CrIminal Court judge, died Sunday at his Mullens home after an extended illness. He taught law, served as legal counsel, chaired boards, and led local educational and civic groups. Burial at Monte Vista Park Bluefield with Masons graveside rites. Survived by wife Ethelena Jennings Worrell, son Carroll, siblings, and grandchildren.

Fire Destroys Coal Plant and Halts Mines

A weekend fire swept through the Dorothy Gordon Mining washery on White's Branch near Madison West Virginia, damaging a plant and forcing two nearby Boone County mines with about 150 workers to suspend operations indefinitely. The loss is estimated at 350000 to 400000 dollars. Madison volunteer firefighters fought it for three hours. The cause is under investigation by the state fire marshal.

Barker Funeral Rites Conducted at Ridgeview

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Ridgeview Baptist Church for Shannon Barker a 71 year old retired Danville farmer who died Wednesday after illness in a Madison doctor’s office. Woman Injured In Car Wreck At Route 61 Lick Fork

A Bluefield woman, Mrs Harold Moore, was hospitalized in Oak Hill with facial cuts and knee injuries from a two car crash on Route 61 near Lick Fork about 9 p.m. Sunday during heavy rain. Fayetteville State Police Investigator Cal H. Gibbs said the second car’s driver fled the scene and will be identified after verification. Moore stated the collision occurred as the other vehicle swerved toward the center of the road and his path collided with the soldier’s car headed from Charleston.
