Virginia Mae Brown Year In ICC Breaks Ground For Women
Virginia Mae Brown marks one year as the lone woman on the Interstate Commerce Commission, calling the experience very pleasurable. The 41 year old Charleston lawyer handles 25 to 30 cases daily in the operating rights division, joins 11 commissioners in major rulings, and manages concerns like the Pennsylvania New York Central Railroad merger. She notes government delay frustrates public and commissioners alike, with mandatory rebuttal periods and appeals shaping the slow process.
