Chains Replace Rainwater Spouts
Modern architects replace down spouts with quarter-inch chains hung from a six-inch sleeve along the roof line. Water travels down the chain by gravity and capillary action, anchoring at a splash slab or gravel stake. This Oriental technique, used in Malaysia India and China, aims to keep spouts unclogged.
