Second Planning And Zoning Meeting Set
A second meeting to hear from the public on the proposed county planning and zoning ordinance was scheduled in the Raleigh County courtroom at 11 a.m. May. Knapp, a teacher at Stoco High School and former House of Delegates member, said the court was moving quickly without full discussion. Warren Thornhill III explained the draft, which divides the area into industrial, commercial and residential zones and imposes building restrictions, with special use permits for junkyards and near highways. New buildings costing over $1,000 would require a county court permit. The draft does not include fees yet but can be modified by the court. The plan sets setbacks of 40 feet from public road rights of way and 60 feet from road centers, with houses in subdivisions at 40 feet from streets and lots at least 50 feet wide.
