West Virginia Tech to honor graduates in Sunday ceremony

Gov Cecil H Underwood will keynote West Virginia Techs graduation in Montgomery as nearly 100 degrees and certificates are awarded for the June to January classes. Magna cum laude graduates include Kermit Bridges Jane Divita Betty Farley and Joan Cook. Degree recipients span arts and sciences engineering business and teaching fields with a large roster of Montgomery Oak Hill and surrounding towns represented.

Ohley Clay Celebrated at Pine Knob Birthday Party

Manick Funeral Slated Thursday

Funeral services are set for 1 pm Thursday for Mike Manick 68 of Glen Rogers who died Tuesday morning at Christian Nursing Home Fayetteville after a heart attack. Rites will be at the Bodnar home with burial at Sunset Memorial Park. He was a retired miner and United Mine Workers Local 6004 member, native of Hungary.

Trail And Eagle Elected To State

HINTON RNS Democrat Van A Trail was nominated for mayor of Hinton. Harold B Eagle, the Republican nominee, received 73 votes while Trail garnered 497. For council four Democrats were named T E Hani fin Carl Hinton W E Dressler and Howard R Cashwell. Other council candidates were G Tyler Webb John Mazzella and Harry Richmond the sole GOP nominee.

Fayette Cub Scout Pack 147, sponsored by Pleasant View Church, boasts three sets of 10 year old twins in Den Two Led by Mrs Joser. Cook Memorial Church Circles Hold May Meetings in Pineville

Circles of Cook Memorial Baptist Church held May gatherings in Pineville homes. Activities included program talks on “Melt Me, Mold Me, and Use Me” and “Thank You God for Yourself,” a surprise stork shower, and refreshments. Thornton Named Dean of Tech to Succeed Palmer Hall

Dr. Frederick E. Thornton has been appointed Dean of the College at West Virginia Tech to fill the vacancy created by Dean Palmer Hall's resignation. He will assume duties July 1 and has prior administrative experience as academic dean and registrar, with career spanning biology professor roles and stints at Washington College.

Kennedy Sentenced To One To Five Years

Kennedy, 29, of Hanover received a one to five year sentence from Circuit Judge Robert M. Worrell for the fatal shooting of Lee B. Smith, 67, of Hanover. Kennedy pleaded guilty after firing nine rifle shots through Smith’s window, wounding him and leading to his death days later. The shooting was said to be provoked by a triangular affair involving a woman.
