Mount Hope Church Receives World Mission Crusade Citation

Mount Hope Baptist Church in Mount Hope earned a citation from the World Mission Crusade national committee of the Northern Baptist Convention for achieving its crusade goal. P. H. Garrett presented the division to Grady V. Toney for framing and display in the church as a record of missionary achievements.

Mount Hope Soldier Transferred to German Air Depot

Cpl. Charles A. Williams of Mount Hope has been moved to the 43rd Air Depot in Erding Germany from the Bremen Terminal of the European Air Transport Service. Williams, son of Mr and Mrs W J Williams, enlisted in November 1945 and went overseas in July 1946. A Fayetteville marriage license was issued for Roy McClellan 24 and Betty Kessler 19 of Montgomery by County Clerk Lacy Neely.

Hess Nominated For Mayor Race In Fayet teville

Charles Hess was nominated for mayor of Fayetteville at the town convention held last night at the courthouse. Other candidates for the Citizens Party include Ben D. Keller and Frank Love among others. no opposition is expected.

Wasatz Rites Held At Oak Hill

Final rites for Pete Wasatz 71 of Oak Hill were held at 11 am at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev W W Snuffer of Oak Hill officiated and burial was in Toney Cemetery. The man died from a heart ailment. services had been set for Saturday.

Crippled Children Clinic Set for May 16 at Montgomery

Dr. Royal Moore chief surgeon of Shriners Hospital Philadelphia and staff will run a one day clinic for crippled children in the basement of the Methodist Church at Montgomery on May 16. Children from Payette and Raleigh counties previously treated at the hospital are urged to attend. the clinic is free for any crippled child under 14 of sound mind.

Mrs Margaret Rutherford has returned to her Oakland home after a three month visit with her sister Mrs A P Hyslop in Oak Hill. While east she reconnected with sister Mrs D MacBeth of Westport Conn and brother Adam Scott of Cape Breton Canada after long separations of 30 and 38 years respectively.

Tree Condemned By City Officers In Mullens

City officials condemned a 31 year old giant weeping willow on Highland Avenue Mullens after plumbers found tree roots reaching the main sewer, causing about one thousand dollars in damage over years. The tree stands on the First Methodist parsonage lot planted by former resident George Foresman in 1916 and its removal may require temporary street closures to access sewer lines.

Three Mullens Wo men to Receive Academy of Friendship Degree

Three members of the Mullens Wo men of the Moose will receive the Academy of Friendship Degree at a Fairmont gathering. The honorees are Mrs. Juanita Atkins Mrs. Eva Young and Mrs. Maud Cretsinger. They will travel Saturday with local officers who already earned the degree at Beckley. The group also voted to sponsor a Mullens High senior to Girls State Camp at Jacksons Mill in June and to provide dinner at the Moose Legion meeting on May 18. Meeting time was set for 8 p.m. in summer months.

Glenfork Students Sweep Eight-Year School Basketball Honors

Glenfork teams won multiple divisions in Wyoming County, with Class A over 105 pounds, Class B 85 to 105 pounds, and Class C under 85 pounds. Oceana and Ben Dunman led six-year schools, taking top honors in multiple classes as Glenfork posted strong showings across weight groups.
