Funeral services for Ray V. Snyder, 57, who died Tuesday, will be held at 3 p.m. today at Oak Hill Methodist Church. Burial follows in Highlawn Memorial Park. Snyder was a ticket agent for the Virginian Railway Company. Recovering from a stroke Thurmond Mrs. J. W. McClure, who suffered a heart attack, is improving at home. Her husband J. W. McClure and daughter Mrs. C. W. Parrish were called home when illness first struck.

Fayette Band Festival at Montgomery April 25 26
Oak Hill, Mount Hope, Ansted, Fayetteville, Gauley Bridge and Montgomery high school bands join the fifth annual Fayette County Band Festival in Montgomery. About 125 musicians form the festival band under Herbert Tiemeyer of the University of Cincinnati. Friday features rehearsals. Saturday includes a 3 p.m. parade and 8 p.m. concert at Montgomery High School. Oak Hill junior high and grade bands also participate in the parade. Auditions after the parade are judged by Tiemeyer. Oak Hill High plans to perform Romantic Overture, the same piece slated for the State Festival in Huntington May 1–3.

Orbis Reports Steering Failure in Devon Storm
The American merchant ship Orbis radioed that its steering gear snapped 133 miles east of Star Point in heavy seas but said no immediate danger. Kentuckian Wins Suit Over Game Chickens
Boyd H. Sisk of Mullens prevailed in a civil action in front of Magistrate R. M. Stovall, recovering $25 plus 75 cents in court costs from J. L. Kentucky Mines Ordered Closed Over Safety Rules
In Pikeville Kentucky the Associated Press reports that twenty six bituminous coal mines in Pike and Floyd Counties employing about one thousand workers have been ordered closed for not meeting safety requirements of the Kentucky Department of Mines and Minerals.
