Mullens Leaders Launch Drive to Rid City of Stray Dogs

Mullens officials began a city drive to curb stray dogs following council reports of complaints. All loose dogs will be impounded at city hall. owners may pay fines to redeem animals, else dogs without tags may be destroyed after a grace period. Peace or War Depends Largely On Classrooms

Dr D G McGarey, education professor, warned Raleigh County teachers that peace or war hinges on world classrooms. He urged one world citizenship, abolition of imperialism, and a strong world federation with a global government. Junior Legion Auxiliary to Assist Poppy Day Sales

Junior members of the Mullens American Legion Auxiliary plan posters and displays for Poppy Day sales on May 24, National Poppy Day. Moose Women to Hear Child Workers Tonight

Kingston Educator Named Oak Hill Principal

Joe Oliver of Kingston has been named principal of Gale Hill High School, effective at the start of the next term. He will replace Mrs. Grneva Bobbitt, who has served since her husband CB Bobbitt’s death. Oliver holds a BA from West Virginia University and an MA from the University of Michigan.

Crow Sentenced for Store Theft at Tolley Jewelry

Mullens Alburt Crow has been sentenced to two to eleven years in the state penitentiary for robbing Tolley Jewelry Store of about $600 worth of merchandise. Charley Merman, a 17 year old, went to the reform school until age 21 after being guilty of stealing a badge at Holloway Drug Store in Pineville, injuring Kennis Ask who later died.

Church Group Retains All Officers in Oak Hill

The Young Mens Enceavor Group of the Oak Hill Church of God retained all officers for the coming year. Ainee Hijesid was named president, Lorraine Chorevin vice president, Billie Nutler secretary. Thirty members attended the meeting led by Rev. W. W. Snuffer.

Gus Horch Dies Rites Incomplete

Gus Horch 77 died at his daughter Mes. Bela Whitt’s Blairscill home at 12 30 PM. Born in 1870 in Konigsburg Germany he came to the United States in 1910. He lived in Wayelte County before moving to Mabscoll. He married in Norfolk one year and belonged to Advent Church. Survivors include Mrs. Elsie Stover Mrs. Marie Davis Mrs. Bertha Whitt and Julius Horch with 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements incomplete.
