April Court Docket Set for Mercer Criminal Court

Mercer Criminal Court's April term docket is to be set April 7. Clyde Blankenship of Princeton, previously convicted of second degree murder for the 1943 Depot Lunch Room fatal shooting of James Dawson, seeks a new trial. Grand jurors report April 3. petit jurors report April 10.

Damage suit opens in Mercer Court over $25,000

Mercer Circuit Court hears a $25,000 damage case brought by Mrs. Billie Brooks against Norfolk and Western Railway arising from an incident at the Coal Show in Bluefield last August. The suit follows an arrest for drunkenness by H. H. Kennedy and transfer to Bluefield Police Chief Whitehead. The jury took the case after hearings through Tuesday afternoon. Other court actions include custody and alimony rulings in separate cases and several docket dismissals and non suits.

Mrs Bowling Named Leader of World Wide Guild for Girls

Mrs Roy Bowling will serve as temporary leader of the World Wide Guild for Girls at First Baptist Church Whitesville. Holstein Rites Scheduled in Pettus

Funeral services for Tom Molstein 64 of Pettus will be held Thursday at 2 pm from his residence with Rev Victor Gillam officiating. He died yesterday in a Charleston hospital and is survived by two sons Paul and Tommy, two daughters Maggie Buzzard and Dora Canterbury, two half brothers Joe and Julian Wolk, and nine grandchildren. Burial will follow in Eunice Cemetery at Annett. The body was returned to the home at 11 am Wednesday from Armstrong Mortuary Whitesville.

Mrs Helder Heads Ansted Health Club Amid Drive Support

Alen Helder elected president of Ansted Health Club succeeding Mrs Charles Massey. Officers include Bars Frank Brown vice president Mrs Mercer Eades secretary treasurer and Mrs John Slates publicity chair. Club drives Fayette County American Cancer Society and sponsors a monthly well baby clinic at the Methodist Church basement. From 1949 to 1959 the clinic examined 48 infants 81 pre school children and 276 visits with 148 immunizations including diphtheria smallpox and whooping cough.

Youths sentenced on theft count in Princeton court

Four youths were sentenced by Magistrate E Dale Bailey for stealing tire tubes wheels gasoline and a tool box from Robert Skeens on Ingleside Road. Harold Wiley 21 Princeton and Curtis Graham 20 Bluefield each fined 100 and 60 days in jail. Stanley Cooper 20 Princeton on probation and a juvenile pleaded guilty to petit larceny and were fined 10 and costs and 30 days. Charges for the first two reduced to a misdemeanor due to age.
