William Jason Evans aged 67 died at his Edmond home after an illness. A retired worker for Maryland New River Coal Co Nuttall he was a Baptist. Survived by wife Jessie six daughters and grandchildren. Funeral set for 2 pm Thursday at Edmond Baptist Church with burial in Nuttall Cemetery.

Fire damages roof of Kennedy home in Coal Mountain
An early Monday fire severely damaged the roof of Virgil Kennedy's four room house near Coal Mountain. The Kennedys had spent the night with her parents in Baileysville. A neighbor reported the blaze to the Pineville Fire Department around 6 am, and firefighters contained the damage to the roof.

Samuel Jackson Wack Prout a Wyco janitor and noted oil painter died Monday in a Welch hospital at about 77. He lived alone with many cats after moving to Wyco with a coal outfit in the 1940s and served in World War I with Canada. Funeral 2 p.m. today at Wyco school with burial in Stil Run Cemetery. The Robertson and Foglesong Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Rep Bailey reports The Long Co of Oak Hill was the low bidder for about six million dollars worth of mine equipment for India under an Export-Import Bank loan. Poland made a bid 35 percent lower, but Indian loan terms require American products. The contract would employ 125 West Virginia workers for one year. Bailey is seeking to preserve the Oak Hill award.
