Air Force opens enlistment quota through March 24
Captain James C. Mathis announced at Beckley Recruiting Station that Air Force enlistment quotas are wide open through March 24. The station, previously capped at 20 enlistees for March, filled the limit in the first 10 days of the month. Yesterday two area men joined the regular Army and were sent to Fort Knox. Earl M. Jones 17 of War Eagle enlisted for three years, and Andrew J. Markivich 19 of Summerice enlisted for three years. Markivich had 2 years 7 months prior service and served with the 458th Amphibious Truck Company at Fort Story Va. in January 1950.
