Fayette Girl Scout Troops Mark 45th Anniversary

Fayette County Girl Scouts observe their 45th anniversary with day camps, new troops forming at Carlisle Deepwater and Kinsherly, and 101 adult leaders supervising. The year includes cookie fundraisers and day camp at Beckwith 4 H Camp serving about two thirds of county girls.

Fayetteville readers learn the Fayette Circuit Court April term docket released by circuit clerk Mrs. L. Tully lists cases set for April 22 through 26 including actions involving Oak Hill, Dewey Blount Sr., Cris Henry Stamey, Fidelity and Deposit Co of Maryland, and multiple civil suits such as King Coal Chevrolet Co. versus Tracey Moses, and Virginia Railway Co disputes with W. Redbud Garden Club Plans March 19 Radio Program

Redbud Garden Club announces its annual horticulture radio program hosted by Mrs. Kelly Williams to be broadcast noon March 19 over local Station Oak Mul. At a meeting at Mrs. Hildreth Samples home plans include purchasing a flag for the Brownie Troop, awards to aid 4-H flower gardening, and group fundraisers plus a Valentine party for welfare children. Nomination by by laws led to two officers being re-elected for 1957-58.

Rev Shirley Donnelly To Speak At Girl Scout Rally

The Rev Shirley Donnelly of Oak Hill will speak at the Fayette County Girl Scout rally in the Fayetteville Memorial Building on May 4. The announcement came during the county council meeting at Mrs J C Clay's Fayetteville home. The meeting also set dates for leadership trainings in April and May and announced cookie sale coordinators for Oak Hill and Fayetteville areas. Nursing camp site planning and health sanitation discussions were led by Denzil Skinner and Z H Legg with local health officials.

Eyesore Camp for Boys Prompted Closure Call

West Virginia lawmakers branded a Tucker County camp near Blackwater Falls an eyesore after a 1955 Legislature backed establishment. Representative Cal Nicely said the army-type barracks house 78 youths in poor condition with holes in floors and roofs and windows missing. He praised the idea but criticized planning and idle periods from fall to spring.

WHITESVILLE RNS Jess Price Boone County superintendent of roads reports seven personnel changes at the Seth garage with two more to come. Carl Keffer Peytona becomes foreman. New drivers and laborers include Howard Harless B McConnell Aubrey Brown Whimmy Gore Leslie Etling and Boyd Kirk. Elmer Carr is retained as grader operator. New workers started Tuesday. Danville office changes not yet complete.

Fayette Man Held On Fire-Setting Case Charge

Fayetteville reports say Robert C. Lovejoy of Gatewood is jailed in Fayette County on a grand jury fire-setting charge with bond set at $1000. He allegedly burned 23 to 30 unoccupied buildings over ten years and admitted starting fires since age 14. Railroad detective B L Slater noted Lovejoy was arrested near a burned two room house at Weewin. He also confessed to burning three abandoned houses at Weewin last December.

Radford Infant Taken By Death

Stanley Clyde Radford six day old son of Mr and Mrs Vernon Radford Page died at 9 pan Wednesday at the Radford residence. Survived by one brother Steve Allen and five sisters Wanda Sue Christine all at home. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 a m at home by Rev Preston James Robson. Trooper McGraw Speaks At Legion Meeting In Fayetteville

State Police Trooper C C McGraw from Beckley Detachment addressed LaFayette Post 149 American Legion on safe driving and minor traffic violations leading to major crashes. The post announced safety letters for Scouting units and hosted guests James T Allen of Union High School district oratorical winner and Miss Phyllis Bragg who gave her contest oration. An inspection found insufficient dirt at Town Park for junior baseball and action was tabled. A 23 member post and auxiliary visit to Beckley VA Hospital was reported, with gifts, Heart Fund Drive donation, and birthday party plans for Maven 18. A card was signed to Joalv. Louis Ellis Dies From Burns in Oceana Fire

Louis Ellis age 69 died at Beckley Hospital at 7 p.m. Wednesday from burns suffered in a February Oceana fire. One other person also died in the blaze. Born January 17, 1897 in Wooldridge Tennessee, he was the son of Sherman and Bertha Ellis. survivors include sister Lela Kray of Jeslica Tennessee and brother William L. Ellis of Clinton Tennessee. Funeral services set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans Administration Hospital Chapel with Chaplain C Shirley Donnelly. burial in American Legion Cemetery with military rites. Body at Melton Mortuary.

Rites Incomplete For James Edward Smith

Funeral arrangements for James Edward Smith nine year old Mount Hope boy who died at 1:15 am Wednesday in Beckley hospital remained incomplete today. He was son of Mr and Mrs Waller Smith of Mount Hope. The body is at the Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor Beckley.
