Special Election Set May 3 For Oak Hill Levy Renewals

Oak Hill voters will decide on May 3 in a special election to renew street and park levies for three years. The city council approved a $10 000 yearly levy mix with $7 500 for streets and $2 500 for park maintenance, stating the renewal is a legal action and will not raise taxes. Levees expire June 1. Also noted are conduit permits for Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company underground work, a new pay phone at Scout Cab, and paving/parking changes on West Central Ave and Central Ave to improve safety and loading zones for Oak Hill Elementary pupils.

Former Fayette Woman Dies in Charleston Hospital

Mrs. Margaret Hamilton former Fayette County resident died in a Charleston hospital at 6 15 am after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert on Feb 7. Survivors include brother Alexander Russell Oak Hill sister Mrs Mae Parkins Charleston and two daughters Mrs Made fine Raab Ballimore Md and Mrs Velma Jolliffe Charleston seven grandchildren three great grandchildren. Body taken to Tyree Funeral Home Oak Hill pending arrangements.

Earl Bailey died Tuesday in Mullens Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday. The body is at Robertson Foglesong Funeral Home pending arrangements.

Mission Studies Scheduled By WSCS at Herndon Church

Three mission studies on Paul’s Letters will be held at the Herndon Methodist Church by the Woman’s Society of Christian Service. Sessions begin Thursday at 7 p.m. with the first two chapters covered this week and the remaining four chapters next week. The study will be conducted by various society members and open to the public.

Hunt Services Slated Thursday for Bobby Hunt

Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Ansted Methodist Church for Robert Lewis Hunt 19 of Angled. The Rev. Albert C. Van Reenen will officiate with burial in the Hunt family cemetery in Ansted. He died at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday at home after a one week illness. Born July 23, 1937 in Oak Hill, he is survived by his parents Seth Williams and Lela Warren Hunt and a brother Keith of Fayetteville. The body lies at Thomas Funeral Home with friends welcome this evening.

First Trial Set On April Docket Is Murder Charge

Fayette County reports the April Fayette Circuit Court docket includes a murder charge against Doney Young of Ansted, 71, with women to serve as jurors for the first time. Smith Funeral Set In Kentucky

Pitman Smith 74 of Oak Hill died at home from a heart attack Monday night. The retired miner will be buried Friday at Briar Creek Cemetery in Williamsburg after services at Crowley Funeral Home.
