Community Church Announces Three Meetings In Harlem Heights

Three forthcoming meetings of groups from the Community Rap Church were announced. The deacon board will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday in the church, Lois Missionary Circle at 6 p.m. Monday, and ushers at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Regular services are 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. led by Deacon Robert Lee and Rev. J L Bly.

Bill McClung Named Manager of VFW Club

Bill McClung, chaplain of the VFW Clarence W. Dicker Son Post No 3110, was named manager of the post club headquarters. He will be salaried and takes over duties Sunday night. The club will operate strictly for VFW members with membership cards and will close doors at midnight. He plans to open daily except Tuesdays.

Legion Auxiliary Funds Heart Fund Donation

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 108 donated $5 to the Heart Fund at a Monday night meeting at the Legion Home. Plans were made for a joint social with Robert Hinkle scheduled to visit the local post. Rev Cecil H Robinson spoke on Community Service, introduced by Mrs J J Campton. Fourteen members attended and refreshments were served by Mrs Paul Brammer and Mrs Bernard Vaught.

Spade And Trowel Garden Club Chosen Exhibit Club For Show

The Spade and Trowel Garden Club will be the exhibit club for Fayette County Garden Council's Flower Show at Fayette Switle Memorial Building on May 18. Members met at Mrs. R. E. Bryant's Jones Avenue home to plan the event and discuss homebound duties and upcoming talks on glads and dahlias.

About 40 men attended the Oak Hill Baptist Church Men’s Fellowship dinner meeting on Wednesday. Following the meal a program directed by John Johnson, the group’s chairman, was presented at 6 30 pm.

River Clean Up Urged By Rockcastle Sportsman Club

Rockcastle Sportsman Club Inc urged immediate clean up of the Guyandotte River and criticized the State Water Commission for delays. Secretary Curtis Blankenship said coal companies dump waste, hindering pollution abatement, following over a year of correspondence. John Shrewsbury Taken By Death

John Hollin Shrewsbury 69 of Barkers Ridge farmer died at home at 6 p m after a heart attack. Born February 4 1884 in Bud he was son of Jack and Becky Shrewsbury. Oak Hill police report the first break-in since a juvenile arrest. At 1:30 a.m. two alley facing window panes were broken and the back entrance and basement stocked area were entered.
