A Lima Ohio mother left her 26 month old Keith, blind and spastic after a fall at six months, in Jefferson Davis Hospital waiting room to ensure he received care. She surrendered later, saying she could not find help and would care for her daughter. Keith became a court ward and will go to a foster home while awaiting state school placement.
David Ruther Ford of Beckley paid a $5 fine and costs to Magistrate Joe Rodriguez for trespassing in November 1962. Mrs Rahama Meador of Odd fined $50 and costs plus $5 and costs and 60 days in jail on obstructing an officer and a drunkenness charge after four men were arrested near Ghent. Delores Penn had charges withdrawn for neglect of a minor, Lester Hopkins paid court costs. A peace warrant against Wilbert Buford was withdrawn. Sherman Paul Acord of Slab Fork paid $5 fine for expired registration. Jennings Oscar Lucas of Daniels paid $5 for improper registration after state police citations.
Wheeling Mayor John Gast proclaimed the Wheeling Creek Valley a disaster area after a severe flood. He asked Gov. Barron to seek federal aid, citing millions in damage to roads, buildings, utilities, industry, and about 2500 to 3000 homes.
Brainerd Minnesota reports that Frank Borders a 38 year old father of five was taken to Ft Sheridan after being absent without official leave from the Army for 11 years. He was arrested at Northwest Paper Co where he worked and is under investigation with orders from the Adjutant General's Department.
Budget talks include raises from 17 500 to 20 000 for justices and 17 500 to 19 000 for the state Supreme Court. Attorneys general receive 12 000 to 15 000 while other posts such as State Police Superintendent motor vehicles commissioner and beer and public service commissioners, plus probation board members, gain pay boosts. A proposed counsel for lawmakers in a reapportionment suit is debated.
Gov. W. W. Barron ordered an on the spot damage survey led by William R. Mathews after heavy rain and rapid snow melt hit the West Fork Monongahela and tributaries. He said federal aid would hinge on public property damage and relief rules guiding requests.
A doctor seeking shelter found a cabin with crackers onion soup coffee and sugar. He spent one night in the cabin and another on the plane. With food gone Tuesday he attempted a snow trek and was sighted by the jet after about two hours. He called the sighting one of the happiest moments of his life and said he had gone as far as he could go.
Beckley state police investigate two breakings and enterings on Tuesday night. Thieves broke into the Seven-Up Bottling Plant near Cranberry taking eight packages of cigarettes and attempting to force the safe. Cranberry School was entered as well with candy and drinks taken. entry gained by breaking back windows.
Two 16 year olds from Hinton were jailed in Raleigh County on grand larceny charges after swapping a stolen truck for a car owned by one youth’s father and getting drunk on cherry liquor. They were arrested by state police at 11 p.m. Tuesday on the Summers Raleigh line. one will face additional drunkenness charges.
Agnes Ann George sues Hall Trucking and Service Co and James S. Jones for $25,000 over a December 28, 1962 collision on State Route 16. She alleges a Hall tractor-trailer failed to stop and yield, causing injury while she rode as a guest in David Paul George’s auto. Jury trial requested. Ned H. Ragland represents the plaintiff.
London reports Prime Minister Harold Macmillan pushes co ordinated nuclear defense with the United States after defeating a Labour no confidence motion 333 to 237. Conservative victories reflect a 101 vote majority and emphasis on Polaris submarines under the Nassau Kennedy NATO framework.
The House prepared to approve a cut of more than 40 percent in the education and labor committee budget requested by Rep. Adam Clayton Powell. Powell reportedly travels in Puerto Rico as Republican critics also face losses from a $148,000 reduction, with a $200,000 allocation for the committee planned. Some Republicans fear the cut will force Powell to limit staff funding.
Shepherdstown residents M. I. Kees faces negligent homicide and drunk driving charges over a traffic death. Donald Fuss, who stopped to aid Richard A. Claudfelter after a wreck, was struck by Kees’s pickup. Claudfelter is also charged with drunk driving.
William Harless of Gilbert Lumber Co. outlined a plan for satellite furniture plants in Southern West Virginia. The National Seating and Dimension Co. formed with an ARA loan and local funding would rely on job retraining to keep 500 workers employed and to fill skilled-operator needs. Harless noted most timber is exported and idle machines hinder orders without trained staff.
Martin Ellis Bailey 73 of Glen Fork dies in a Beckley hospital. Funeral set for 2 p.m. Friday at Russell Baptist Church, burial in Stewart Cemetery at Matheny. Survived by wife Alvin, two sons Isaac Maurice and Martin Estill, two daughters Roberta and Edna, three sisters, and 17 grandchildren. Body to be moved from McDougal Robertson and Fogle son Funeral Home to residence Thursday.
George D McDaniel 65 of Scarbro died Tuesday in a Beckley hospital after a long illness. The service was at 2 p.m. Friday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel Oak Hill with burial at High Lawn Memorial Park. Surviving wife Lyda Bennett McDaniel a daughter Mae Renfrom Bradley three brothers Howard Deward Max and three sisters Hazel Higginbotham Pansy Stewart Georgia Curry Mae Albury and three grandchildren. Pallbearers listed. Body at funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
Virgil Nash Bolt 55 of 124 Clayton Ave. will have funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday at Caffee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shirley Donnelly officiating. Burial follows at Sunset Memorial Park. Bolt was found dead Sunday evening in his garage. death attributed to natural causes. Body to lie in state at the funeral home until services. Pallbearers listed as L. A. The week-old son of Mr and Mrs George Robert Lucas of Fireco died at 12 15 p m Tuesday in a local hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p m Thursday at Farley Hill Cemetery with Rev James in charge. Survivors include two brothers Clarence and Charles and four sisters Margaret Peggy Diane and Jerald at home plus grandmothers Mrs Nora Ella Adkins Basin and Mrs Janie Lilly of California. Webb and Neal Funeral Home in charge until service.
George Campbell Slemp 82 of Wise Virginia died in Norton Hospital at 4 am Monday after a long illness. Born 1881 in Lee County he lived in Wise 53 years and served as Wise postmaster for 20 years while owning a local grocery. Surviving sons Neal W B and B D wide, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Grandfather of George C. Scott. Funeral at Wise Baptist Church with Oak Grove Cemetery burial. Slemp and brother in law Eugene Souder attended services.
Final rites for 72 year old Frank Gordon Burnette of Whitesville will be held Thursday at 1 p m in First Baptist Church Whitesville with Rev O E Stump officiating. Burial follows at Sunset Memorial Park South Charleston. Burnette died Tuesday morning in a Huntington hospital after a long illness. He was a longtime employee of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. Survivors include his wife Bessie two daughters Ruth Bartlett and Naoma Burnette a son Jack Paul Joe two brothers E J Burnette and W H Burnette a sister Lot tie Clark 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Four miners were injured when brakes failed while transporting workers from the Page Coal and Coke mine at Stephenson. They were taken by motor car to Wyoming General Hospital and listed in good condition. Injured: Marshall Bailey Jr. Cyclone dislocated shoulder. Andrew Messer Kopperston bruised knee. Johnny Widener Corinne neck and shoulder injuries. William McKendree Jr. Black Eagle fractured right leg.
An A37 Skywarrior returning from a routine mission crashed while landing on the Kitty Hawk in the Pacific about 300 miles south of Tokyo. Carey, the landing signal officer, was struck by debris and suffered compound fractures in both legs. Pilot Wilsonreported hydraulic and fuel issues, the crew bailed out, and Shoemaker died after recovery. Shoemaker and Eustace were rescued. Wilson was missing after daylight searches March 5.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Bhanu Gupta says a man-eating tiger in the northern district has killed 10 lions in a matter of weeks. He noted the tiger roams Nainital, recalling Corbett’s 1924 tiger hunt and a claim of 432 human lives.

Mrs Etta Price 77 of Allen Junction died at 2 30 a m today in a Beckley hospital. Born November 14 1835 in Spring Creek North Carolina she was survived by husband Dan Price two sons Andy Bud and Phil five daughters Alma Thompson Fred Long Mae Oliver and others a brother and sister and nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending at Sam Fogleman Funeral Home Mullens.
Mrs Reva Conway formerly of Pax died in a Tampa hospital at 730 am after a long illness. An ambulance from Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home departed Beckley early today to return her body for completion of arrangements.

Evans died Tuesday at 11:30 a m in Oak Hill hospital after a short illness. Born Hitchins Ky June 30 1873. Survivors: brother Ben of Sanger and sister Mrs Ella Adkins of Hitchins Ky. Howard King 85 of Rock will have funeral services at 11 a m Thursday at Rock Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Cook officiating. Burial follows at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. He died Monday in a Williamson hospital. Born May 15, 1878 in Franklin County Virginia, son of Monroe and Mildred King. Bailey Funeral Home of Princeton coordinating arrangements.
A 13 year old Crab Orchard juvenile charged with running away from home appeared before Raleigh County Juvenile Court Judge Harry L. McCreery. He placed her in juvenile quarters at the Raleigh County Jail awaiting her mother’s arrival for release. The girl told two boys at the Greyhound Bus terminal she was running away.
A grease gun exploded at Tibbs Service Station in Mullens Tuesday night injuring employee Jesse Goad. Goad suffered burns while trying to smother the flames as the fire damaged the grease room and nearby cabinets. He was treated at Wyoming General Hospital and listed in good condition.
The Norfolk and Western Railway will furlough about 650 firemen following the Supreme Court ban on feather bedding. Some younger workers may be released within three months after work rules talks, with further firings planned over the next year pending settlement. Cash dismissal or furlough advances will be paid based on length of service.

Charles Luther Griffith 82 of Glen Rogers will be laid to rest Friday at 1 p.m. in Independent Baptist Church with Rev. John Richardson and Rev. Willis Woods presiding. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. He died Tuesday night after a long illness. born March 6, 1880. He was a retired miner. He is survived by six sons and five daughters, plus a sister and several children. The body was moved from Evans Funeral Home in Oceana to the family residence Thursday afternoon.
Mrs Margaret Wallis Kirk Mason Countys oldest resident died at Hogsett Monday age 103 She was among state Centenarians honored Feb 14 by the West Virginia Centennial Commission
A tornado hit Cave Spring at about 7 p.m. EST lasting around two minutes, uprooting trees and knocking a power line down plunging about half the town into darkness. The same storm damagedRock Run near Piedmont Alabama injuring three and also caused damage in Gadsden and Homewood Alabama. Tennessee plains faced flooding as Knoxville streets blocked by high water. Marshall Collins rode out the storm atop a 45 foot pole as a radio stunt, saying he thought he had it.
Glashen served as assistant county health officer with Dr. W W Hume and belonged to the juvenile court of delinquency under Judge Har ley Kilgore. He was deputy under Sheriffs C C Lewis and Ash Mankin. In 1927 he became bishop of the Spiritual United Church of Christ Zion and in 1928 was named senior bishop of the world church with over 5 000 members.

Beaver Volunteer Fire Department answered a noonday alarm at the home of Mr and Mrs Jack Bryant Tank Branch Hill when smoke filled the house. Fire Chief Charles Anderson and eight firefighters found water in the basement flooding the furnace while Mrs Bryant unable to reach the basement made the call.
