Pineville Chapter No. 310 OES held a candlelight installation at Pineville Masonic Temple naming Mrs. Gary McClung as Worthy Matron and Chilton C. Tucker as Worthy Patron. Women's Missionary Society Hears Address By Mrs Taylor

Mrs Travis Taylor new associational interpreter spoke on The Middle East at the First Baptist Church Women’s Missionary Society meeting. She showed Middle East life items and urged support through prayers and charitable offerings. The group announced July events and adopted a project to clean and paint the church basement with Men’s Fellowship help.

Mr and Mrs Roy Hall of Pineville welcomed a daughter born Friday morning at Welch Emergency Hospital. The newborn weighed six pounds four and a half ounces.

Logan Tavern Owner Shot

Elmer Shiflett operator of a Peck's Mill tavern was reportedly shot twice by a constable during an attempt to serve warrants. Sgt Russell Hogg said warrants were obtained by Shiflett's wife. Shiflett fled as Constable Lee Collins entered the tavern and a confrontation ensued in which the constable was beaten and Shiflett was shot.

Funeral Services Held for George Washington Finney

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. in the Robertson and Foglesong Funeral Home chapel for George Washington Finney 67 of Allen Junction a retired miner who died of cancer Friday while en route to a Beckley hospital. He was born June 6 1831 in Virginia a son of Joe and Vinni Mae Finney. Surviving are his wife Daisy Cook Finney three sons Hopkins Smithfield N C Lawson New Brunswick N J and Raymond Allen Junction seven daughters Marie Walker Bluefield May Branch Tans Miss Bessie Finney Chicago Ti Eileen Rosser New Brunswick N J Margaret Finney Tauntons Mass Enough Fields Morgantown and Anna Arnold Detroit Mich 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Burial was in Stotesbury Cemetery.

Fayette Youths Enroll in County Pool Swim Lessons

Eight students join beginner swimming classes taught by Miss Sally Shaw and Miss Martha Ashley at the Fayette County 4-H pool near Beckwith. Senior life saving training and intermediate courses are planned, with adult beginning classes starting in two weeks. Enrollment by calling the county camp pools.

Two Mullens youths treated for injuries

Two Mullens area boys Carter Wagner II and Edward Fisher were treated at Wyoming General Hospital Saturday. Edward Fisher suffered facial wounds and a possible jaw fracture from a bicycle wreck around 7 30 p.m. Wagner was treated after being bitten on the right arm by a neighbor's dog with the animal linked to a prior attack on his sister.

Mrs. John Galloway of Carbondale recalls 24 years of marriage yielding 27 children including two sets of twins three sets of triplets and 14 singles The children range from Manuel 23 to Paul 100 months The family mainly stays together with some members working in Ohio and Charleston The mother jokes about feeding as her main challenge and hopes to appear on a quiz show with part of her brood.

About 209 children received typhoid polio and preschool injections during a general clinic in the Clear Fork Valley at Clear Creek White Oak and Colcord. Many vaccination cards showed finished indicating completion of shots. A final clinic is planned for July 24.
