At a Pineville meeting the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 133 reported $85 from poppy sales. President Mrs. Carl Parks announced a cash award for reaching the membership quota from 5th District president Mrs. Raymond Short, Gary. A planning committee was appointed to plan social and civic functions and report recommendations to the membership.

Free Speech Clinic Set In Wyoming June 10
In Pineville and Mullens, the Wyoming County Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults announced a six week free speech clinic starting June 10 at Pineville Grade School No 2 and Mullens Grade School. Applications are available at the Wyoming County Board of Education. Mrs James Lyons, president, said the society was invited by the Association of Rehabilitation Centers Inc for national directory inclusion. 13 centers were selected for their services.

Atlas E inter continental missile launches from Vandenberg
Air Force successfully launched an Atlas E intercontinental ballistic missile from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California during a system evaluation. The 82 foot rocket rose from a bunker and flew 4,000 miles to a target area in the Pacific Ocean in a test of the overall weapon system.
