Five candidates in the August 5 primary filed their preliminary financial statements at the Raleigh County Clerk’s office. The late submissions, received by mail Tuesday and Wednesday, cover contributions and expenses for Lee Cole Velma Hedrick Paul Vennari O D Hall and Lyonelle Lilly. A reminder announced new postal rates effective Friday including 4 cents per ounce for first class letters and 7 cents per ounce for air mail.

Two Suits Filed In Raleigh County Court Actions
A $25,000 damage suit was filed in Raleigh County Circuit Court by Everette E. Kenny Jr. suing by his father against Carlos Dean Bias and Sid Bias. ISRO Crews Resume Work On Maxwell Hill Road
Minor Scott of Rae feigh County State Road Commission says resurfacing Prosperity Road is finished and crews now begin work from Maxwell Hill. Earlier SRC teams repaired a stubborn stretch between the 1921 By-Pass and Stamford Road. The Medal of Honor was awarded to 79 U.S. Marines for WWI heroism.
