More Insurance Control Planned By The Associated Press
Charleston auditor Edgar B. Sims proposed broadening state insurance regulation beyond fire insurance to other forms. He urged a system like the fire rate bureau, with a state insurance code in force by January 1, 1948, and argued federal regulation could be avoided by strong state oversight. Sims recalled firms initially resisted a rate bureau but later supported its results since 1939.
