State Reports Enrollment Gain but Raleigh County Drops
Statewide public school enrollment totals 437,320 after one month, up 3,872 from a year ago. Raleigh County registers about 23,875 students, down 192, while Kanawha and Monongalia lead gains across counties. The State Department of Education expects enrollment to rise toward 442,000 midyear as Raleigh adds 11 teachers and 820 total staff, including four full-time homebound teachers and four part-timers for students at home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Josie Evelyn Allen 46 of Mabscott who died at 8 10 am yesterday in a Beckley hospital after a two year illness will be conducted at 2 pm tomorrow in the Calvary Baptist Church by the Rev James Neal Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Born at Jumping Branch on June 21 1906 she was the daughter of William and Mary Massey both deceased She had been a resident of Raleigh County for virtually her entire life and had lived at Mabscott for the past six years She was a member of the Beaver Baptist Church Surviving her are her husband Maxwell Allen three sons Jesse Walker of Spotsylvania Va and Willis and Fermine Walker both of Odd five daughters Mrs Eva Ware of Mullens and Maxine Jerylynn Yvonne and Evelyn Kay Allen all at home and four grand children Also surviving are seven brothers Dayton Massey of Hinton Ray Massey of Glen Daniel Walter Massey of Oak Hill Edgar Massey of Daniels Frank Massey of Dayton Oh and Albert and Clarence Massey both of Jumping Branch and seven sisters Mrs Effie Epperley of Beckley Mrs Ora McGrady of Fayetteville Mrs Lara Blackburn of Clarksburg Mrs Mary Basham of Jumping Branch Mrs Orpha Deaver of Hinton and Mrs Mamie Bughes and Mrs Ethel Bragg both of Oak Hill The body will be taken to the residence at 4 pm today and to the church one hour prior to services.

Huettner to Remain Circuit Court Reporter in Two Circuits
Mrs Erma Huettner will continue as court reporter for the 10th Judicial Circuit Raleigh County after Norman Knapp becomes judge She will also serve in the same capacity for the 25th Judicial Circuit Boone and Lincoln counties Boone moved from the 11th circuit effective January 1 this year

Fox Arraigned on Felony Charge in Beckley
Howard Fox, 22, of Virginia and formerly of Beckley, waived to the grand jury on a felonious assault charge. Police captured him at a Plumley Avenue home after being spotted through a window. He allegedly struck Stewart B. Angell with a hammer May 17 as Angell closed the Beckley Carburetor and Electric Co. He remains in Raleigh County Jail for failing to post 32,000 bond.

Two Men Waived to Jury on Grand Larceny Case
Mabel Edwards of Raleigh, listed as a Negro, was held to the Raleigh County grand jury yesterday by Magistrate J P Meadows on a charge of abandoning her four children aged from a few months to nine years. The complaint by Pearl Eans, Raleigh, states Edwards left home on Christmas Eve. She was jailed in lieu of bond.
