An Oak Hill incident left Mrs. Edith Vance and her daughter Gandra Sandraay with burns after their dresses caught fire from an open flame. The mother helped extinguish the flames, sustaining injuries in the process. Both were treated at Oak Hill Hospital.
Six year old Daryl Eckhoff told his teacher he has a new baby sister. The teacher said she would send a card to the mother. He replied that she already knows it.
The Borderland Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored a radio program for February National History Month. Scarbro Elementary School presented a patriotic program on Three Men Who Have Birthdays in February directed by Mrs. Fred Dickinson. Students spoke on Edison Lincoln Washington and Mary Todd Lincoln with named presenters. An essay contest on The Life of James Monroe was held in nine county high schools with winners advancing to state and national levels for prizes and medals.
Tri-Hi-Y and Hi-Y members from Collins High School attended the Southern District Pre-Legislative Conference at Concord College in Athens. Dr. G F Moore moderated a session on how a bill becomes law with delegates T E Myles A L Clark and Glenn D Hatcher participating. After lunch officer elections, attendees planned a trip to Charleston in March. Oak Hill participants listed include Jane Christian Nancy Livey Catherine Rickard Barbara Gillespie Sue Slaven Linda Dorton Gene Carroll Buck Bryan Dexter Morton Barney Stinnett Owen McNeely and Tom Hinle.
In Mullens at 7:40 p.m. a group of Wyoming County Republicans organized a Young Republican Club with Stacie Mullens as temporary chairman and Archie McKinney as temporary secretary. Naomi Rowe of Bud elected chairman of the nominating committee. Members include J. H. Martin Ralph Cook W. D. Tilley Billy Jackson Lloyd Blackburn Harold Adams and more. Two committees will meet March 9 at 2 30 p.m. at the Mullens Advocate Building to elect permanent officers.
Whitesville area high schools alert students to updated Merit Scholarship values for 1958-59. Dr. John Stanbaker of Evanston Michigan, director, notes the program provides over 5 million dollars in four year college scholarships, awarded by need and renewable each year without further exams.
The Needles Lighthouse on the Isle of Wight becomes the United Kingdoms first rock based lighthouse fitted with television keeping its maritime signaling updated and modern.
Colcord and Ameagle hold meetings at Ameagle Church after fire destroyed Home School. Youth classes for Christian instruction proceed at the Home School. Easter choir rehearsals ongoing as Colcord and area churches report larger attendance. Local water issues persist at Ameagle and Colcord elementary schools. Obituaries include Mrs Abigail Jones of Cleveland with services in Sharon. Weddings announced for Darlene Chancey and Merbie Dillon in Dayton.

Oceana Fire Chief Bernard Bailey plans to report to the State Fire Marshal after Friday morning fire at Davin. The blaze damaged multiple buildings, with a total loss for the store and two houses, while some residents faced separate losses and insurer coverage for furnishings.
Two men were sent to Wyoming General Hospital after highway and mine accidents. N S Doc Cheely 68 of Mullens suffered facial cuts when his car hit a utility pole on Guy andotte Ave. Curtis Bright 52 of Gallagher received burns to his face and neck while starting a mine fire on Herndon Mountain.
Fayetteville Woman's Club member Mrs. Dan H. Perdue competed in the capital district sewing contest in Charleston. First place went to Mrs. Marjorie DePoy of the Chesapeake Club. Five contestants modeled their own outfits and discussed pattern numbers fabric and cost. The winning ensemble featured black seal trimmed fabric with a cape and suit. Mrs. Perdue was accompanied by club president Mrs. Carl B. Vicklers. Tea followed the judging for all participants and guests.
Wolf has served as postmaster for five years and lived in Glen Rogers for 27 years. He is active in civic life as vice president of the high school PTA and president of the Wyoming County Postmasters Association. Married to Ellen Sundin, they have four children Judy Dayton Jerry Cindy and one grandson Stephen Clay. He belongs to Glen Rogers Community Church.
