Ansted proposes higher water rates after a public hearing. The plan would raise minimum charges to 3.10 dollars inside the town and 3.60 outside. It aims to add 6511 dollars in annual gross revenues while addressing past losses and a six step monthly usage scale starting at 1.55 dollars per 4 000 gallons.
A Social Security Administration representative will visit Whitesville City Hall on Thursday at 10 a m. The event is scheduled to provide assistance and information to residents.
Willie L. Hypes 85 of Victor died Sunday from a heart condition after two months illness. Funeral services at 2 pm Tuesday at Sunday Road Baptist Church with Rev. Eugene Brown and Rev. W. H. McClung. Burial at Haynes Chapel Cemetery. Survivors: two brothers Luther of Poe and Wilbur Hypes of Winona. two daughters Gladys Sewell of Victor and Sally Hypes of Graydon. one son Stanley Hypes of Victor. grandchildren and great grandchildren. Body moved from Collings Funeral Home to the Hypes residence at 4 pm today.

Fayetteville council approved the flower box project by the Fay etteville Garden Club. Business places are asked to place window boxes this spring, with sidewalk mounting possible if needed. The club aims to have blooms in place before the county spring flower show in May.
The trailer home of Mr and Mrs Floyd Coleman was destroyed by fire about 10 am. Mrs Ice Tilley reported an explosion before flames. The Colemans were away. Oceana Fire Department responded and Fire Chief Bernard Bailey investigated the cause. Corbett Coleman’s trailer burned months earlier.

Mrs Eu Lene Graham of Pineville was honored with a stork shower at the home of Mrs Greeley Wyatt on Shulmate Street. Shari ng hostess duties were shared by Mrs Wyatt Mrs Jack Finney and Mrs Joe Hill with a pink and green decor. The Woman's Christian Temperance Union of Oak Hill will host a Frances Willard tea at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Jones Ave Church of God. Mrs. Aubrey Halstead will lead the program recounting the life of Frances Willard.

Three persons were treated at Oak Hill Hospital Friday evening after a car crash in Fayette Clear Creek. Barbara Maynor Willis Branch and Acie Bailey's were in a car struck by an unidentified driver who fled the scene. state police investigate.
Wanda Y. Gray of Pineville begins a special instruction course at the American Floral Art School in Chicago. The course trains florists to arrange cut flowers for all occasions and to create bouquets and corsages, with plans to open a Pineville shop in March.
Two damage suits from automobile accidents filed in Fayette Circuit Clerk's Office. Evelyn Grose of Fayetteville sues Posey Martin of Montgomery for 25000 for injuries from a collision on U S Route 21 last April. James Brubaker of Oak Hill sues W R Nickell and Virgil Nickell for 25000 claiming injury from a February crash in East End Oak Hill. the car was owned by W L Nickell and driven by Virgil Nickell.
In Bluefield a U S District Court ruling favored Appalachian Electric Power Co in a $75 000 damages case. Plaintiff C C McKinney of Wyoming County claimed injuries when a television antenna he carried touched a live AEP power line on Corinne Mountain.
Charleston J Lynn Swiger of Hinton filed for the Democratic nomination for the 10th District State Senate seat. The district includes Mercer Monroe and Summers Counties. He seeks the seat held by Roy Parker of Union. Richard P Baylor of Hinton also filed for the Democratic nomination.
