Beauty editor Betty Clarke advises brides on packing for honeymoons in any season. She suggests choosing quick-drying, wrinkle-free clothes, avoiding laundry clutter, and testing fragrances with the groom weeks before the wedding.
A Bykota Class party for First Baptist Church members filled the Coca-Cola Building social room on Oakwood Avenue with games and refreshments. Attendees included Joan Tyree Betty Jo Hess Zelma Ballengee Courtney Dorsey Delores Martin Wilson Lane D J Godbey Ira Holliday Jr Lois Stover Carlos Gunnoe and Betty Earhart among others.
Mrs J P Wood frames the Friday Flat Top Farm Women's Club meeting around India. Her daughter Mrs H A Williams, Morgantown, shows two films The Changing Face of India and Culture of Indian People and describes native costumes. Mrs V C Shrewsbury leads devotions and reads Thessalonians. A Home Central committee report outlines plans to beautify counties. Five visitors attend and refreshments follow.

A sewing pattern advertisement offers pattern 9103 for a sun catcher neck dress and blouse for girls in sizes 2 4 6 8 10. Includes two sleeve versions and a crisp checked cotton sundress with a frosty white blouse. Cost 35 cents plus 5 cents extra per pattern for mailing.
A new plastic and felt floor covering developed in Lancashire England will be shown at the British Industries Fair this year. It comes in plain colors or embossed two color effects and retails for under $1 per yard. It withstood fifty thousand emery cloth rubs and an indentation test without marking, and resisted concentrated acid without color change. A sample laid in the company plant withstood 3 1/2 years of trampling by metal shod workers and wheeled trucks.
The article advises that spring blouses should be more than utilitarian and become part of the costume. It describes pressing rayon special occasion blouses with a band box lock, sharp sleeves, shoulders, body, and collar, using a tailor’s cushion for a smooth shoulder, then hanging to dry before storage.
The Azalea Garden Club marked its 15th anniversary with a luncheon at the Beckley Hotel private dining room. President Mrs. D C Ashton presided and presented a white orchid corsage to Mrs. John Middleton of Charleston, the club’s first president. Past presidents received white carnations. Members and guests listed include Mrs. W A Thornhill Jr, Mrs. FE L Banks, Mrs J E Lilly, and others. Mrs. H C Sessions highlighted club progress since 1938 and a National Gardener Magazine report was given by Mrs. E M Payne Jr. Guests included Mrs Middleton and J M MeKla of Truman Ark.
Mrs E G Grogan was elected president of the Mountain Top Garden Club for a two year term at a meeting hosted by Mrs L M Halloran on Woodlawn Avenue. Also chosen were Mrs L A Landers as vice president, Mrs D A Blankenship secretary, and Mrs Fred Stone treasurer. The group planned to sponsor a boy to Camp Cesar and plant a tree on Arbor Day. The Raleigh County Garden Council flower show will be held in September or October.
Kings Daughters host colonial tea at 2 p.m. in the social room of the Methodist temple. Judea Shrine No 13 White Shrine dinner at 6:30 p.m. The Beckley Presbyterian Young Adults meet at 6:15 p.m. at 317 N Kanawha St. B P W dinner at 7 p.m. tonight in Beckley Hotel. Family night noted by Beckley Junior High P T A tomorrow 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the Recreation Building.
