Weekend Floods Claim Lives and Rising Damages
High water from the Greenbrier River and floods along the Kanawha region claimed three lives over the weekend. Grady Eades Jr., Alderson farmer, died while trying to salvage his boat from a flooded pond. 1st Lt. Hugh Allen Shrader and his wife Louise Shrader of Alexandria, Virginia, drowned when their car left the road and plunged into the swollen river near Ingleside. The disaster damaged homes, camps, and industries across Greenbrier, with the Bluestone Dam releasing water to protect downstream areas, and emergency crews reporting multiple flood-related incidents and rescues.

Four Men Hurt In Car Accident Near Bailey's Mountain
Four Barkers Ridge District men, including three Gray brothers, were hospitalized after a late Saturday crash on Bailey's Mountain, Clear Fork side, between Baileysville and Jeeana. A fifth occupant, a Bud youth, escaped serious injury. Fred Gray 34 may have skull fracture and unconsciousness. Raymond Gray 37 may have shoulder fracture. Emmett Gray Jr. 23 evaluated for pelvic injury with forehead cut. Driver Rufus Lawrence, 35, from Herdon Mountain, was hospitalized at Princeton with back and shoulder injuries. Raymond said the group had been to Oceana and were returning home when the accident occurred.

Fayetteville funeral services were held Saturday for Fletcher Wills found dead in the old mill pond at Beckwith. A coroner's jury ruled the death accidental. Wills, born August 4, 1893 in Prince, was a retired miner.
