Fayetteville hosts the Third Governor's Polio Banquet at the new memorial building starting 6 30 p m with dining by Fayette count residents and entertainment by the Concord Commanders. Proceeds support the March of Dimes infantile paralysis fund and local care. Dinner and dance tickets cost 25 and entertainment only 5 per couple. public admission 1. College President to Judge Wyoming County Essay Contest

Virgil H. Stewart, president of Concord College, will judge the essay contest sponsored by the Wyoming Community Concert Association during its membership drive week February 25 to March 1. Winners receive a $50 savings bond at the Jane Hobson concert on April 3 at Murlens High School.

Mine Victim's Rites Set Today

Funeral services for Troy Ball 37 of Giatlo are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Weyanoke Church with Rev. Ben Woodring officiating. He died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday in a Bluefield hospital from injuries from a mine accident at the Alpeca mine of Gaston Coal Co. Ball, a conveyor operator for three years, was born August 22, 1914 in Giatto, son of Nannie Ball and the late Marshally Ball. He is survived by two brothers and a sister.

Annual Oceana Band Concert Sunday at School Gym

The Oceana High School Band will perform an afternoon program at 3 p.m. in the school gym under director Fred H. Shannon Jr. The concert features patriotic songs marches and classical and popular selections with soloists and a bass quartet.

Mrs Margaret Thomson 66 widow of West Thomson Mt Hope died at 4 Bem Thursday in Beckley Hospital after lengthy illness. Born November 19 1884 in Scotland she belonged to Mt Hope Presbyterian Church. Perry's Gun Death ruled a selfInflicted act

Greenbrier County coroner Philip Oden ruled Opha E. Perry’s death a self inflicted gunshot wound in the left chest. Perry, aged likely from local context, died at 9 45 am Thursday. He was living with a brother on Alvon Road and was found near the road with a burning cigarette. Despondent after his wife’s August death, he had sold his farm last Saturday. Surviving are Therian Perry and Gerald Edward, a son.

Dinner Party Honoring Parents Slated Saturday

Mt Hope parents of children in the Mt Hone Baptist Temple Sunday School Junior Department will be honored at a dinner party Saturday evening at the church.
