Two Raleigh sailors aid USS Missouri salvage in Chesapeake Bay
Two Raleigh County seamen aboard the USS Missouri helped salvage the battleship after grounding in Chesapeake Bay while en route with their jetport to Guantanamo Bay for a training mission. One is Robert E. Raines of Raleigh, who enlisted in 1946 after training at Great Lakes, Ill. The other is James R. Bruce of Rhodell, who joined in 1947 and trained at Great Lakes.
