Twenty Tb Cases Found in Fayetteville Clinics

Fayetteville reports twenty positive tuberculosis cases found in January clinics across six diagnostic sessions. Of 99 attendees, 57 were negative. seven new positives ranged from far advanced to primary. Six clinics, 14 referrals, 22 private visits, 136 served, and 106 interviews documented.

Funeral rites set for Nancy Jean Mills in Crab Orchard

Nancy Jean Mills, daughter of Orus C. Mills and Mae Fink Mills, died in a local hospital after a four day illness. Funeral services will be held at Crab Orchard Baptist Church at 2 pm Saturday, with Rev. C S Donnelly of Oak Hill and Rev. Mark W. Wolfe of Crab Orchard officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Survived by her mother, a brother Arthur Clayton, maternal grandmother Mrs. A L Fink, and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. A C Mrs of Crab Orchard.

Dance and Banquet Planned by Band Looster’s Club

Fayetteville high school band fundraiser features round and square dancing led by James Dowdy with 4-H club help. The event at the high school gym runs Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight to raise funds for instrument purchases. A dinner for 61 band members and their parents will be served March 17, with Irene Cavendish chairing the banquet committee.

Water Firm Begins Installing Four Fire Hydrants

Oak Hill progress on four new fire hydrants in the Trump Addition per M H Martin superintendent of West Virginia Water Service. About 500 feet of six inch line laid from Virginia Street to the Trump and Mankin avenue intersection. Completion expected in a week or 10 days with good weather. Oak Hill Council warned the water company a Public Service Commission complaint would be filed if hydrants not started before March 1. Virginia Street Trump Avenue intersections and Duncan Trump and Mankin intersections to receive hydrants.

Wyco PTA Considers Hot Lunch Program and Paint Job

Wyco PTA discussed starting a hot lunch program pending survey results showing parent student and teacher interest. Principal Garland Phillips to oversee the survey with a committee to explore interior painting of the three room school. Finite chairman Clayton Lockabill reported about $30 in contributions to the treasury. First and fifth grades tied for meeting attendance, earning a library book and pencil per child. Wycco Boy Scout Troop led by T P Mooney presented a program with about 30 scouts. Music by third to fifth grades. Refreshments served by hostess committee.

Oceana Methodist Church Buys Land from Tolers

FINEVILLE The Oceana Methodist Church becomes owner of two lots in Oceana, Lots 92 and 93 in Cook-Weaver Addition, deeded from Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Toler. Ivan L Daniels 28 of Oceana waived preliminary hearing on a second offense drunken driving charge. He was committed to county jail in default of 300 dollar bond. He also faced driving with license present and was fined 10 dollars plus costs and 30 days in jail for that offense.

Tralee Man Awaits Trial On 3 Road Law Counts

Mullens-Hayden Archer, 20, of Tralee, held in Mulens City Jail awaiting magistrate court trial on driving while intoxicated without an operator license and hit and run charges. Police arrested him near Beckley road overhead bridge after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday following a report of a car being driven toward Mullens from New Richmond. James Ball identified Archer’s car as the one that sideswiped Ball’s sedan and fled. The vehicle, belonging to H Bailey of South Maltens, carried five others including Bailey’s daughter. damage to Ball’s car estimated at 180.

Pvt. Patrick Estes son of Mr and Mrs Harry Estes of Bud has enrolled in a two year course in commercial typing and accounting at a U S Army sponsored school in Heidelberg Germany prior to overseas duty. He previously completed a mechanical engineering course at Fort Belvoir Virginia after basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky. He attended Herndon High School before enlisting.

Benefit Card Party Held by Mullens Club

Mullens Woman's Civic Club raised more than 32 dollars at a benefit card party in the American Legion Hall Moran Avenue. Mrs Elbert Humphrey chaired the event and expected more funds after ticket sales. Seven tables of bridge and six of canasta were played with high winners named for both women and men. Prizes from local merchants were awarded and decorations reflected St Valentine.
