Sorority Spreads Christmas Cheer in Mullens

A 63 year old man from Ten Hill was jailed in Fayette County on felonious assault after slashing his wife with a pocket knife at their home. She was treated at Oak Hill Hospital in satisfactory condition. Police Chief Tunney Hunsaker and Officer E L Tinsley led the arrest. Preliminary hearing planned before Magistrate R C Godsey.

Fayetteville county memorial auditorium was robbed Tuesday night. Soft drinks candy and $30 in silver were stolen. Entrance was forced through a front door with top and bottom pegs unfastened. Concession stand door was also forced open. Robbery found at 10 am Thursday before high school basketball practice.

Child Hits Car Escapes Injury on State Route 16
Four year old Linda Carol Smith of Stephenson ran into the side of a moving car on State Route 16 at Black Eagle about 5 p m Thursday. She was treated at Wyoming General Hospital and released. Claude Ray Ingle 39 of Iroquois was driving the car and said he sounded his horn and swerved to avoid the child traveling at an estimated 23 to 30 mph. No charges were filed. The child and her grandmother Mrs. Robert Smith were returning from a visit to Black Basin when the incident occurred.

Air Force serviceman charged after Mullens wreck
A 20 year old Air Force serviceman Joe l Blackwell Jr. of Corinne was charged with reckless driving after wrecking his father's car on the Mullens Pineville road around 10 30 p m Wednesday night. State Trooper James Fairchild said he hit a slippery spot and lost control near the Itmana tipple, the car landing on its top after striking an embankment.

Fireworks Sellers Charged as Wyoming County Moves to Halt Shooting Matches
In Wyoming County police and Slab Fork District Constable Weedy Allen moved to curb shooting matches by cracking down on fireworks. Proprieties Youle Caraban 39 Glen Rogers and Dillard Shrews bury 37 Glen Fork were arrested for possessing and selling fireworks and fined 100 plus costs by Magistrate Jack Pizzino. Fireworks were confiscated from Caraban's store and warnings issued that shooting matches will not be permitted within the county.

Funeral for Charles Perry Conway Held in Oak Hill
Funeral services for Charles Perry Conway 49 formerly of Ansted and Phoenix will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Tyree Funeral Home Oak Hill chapel with Revs. James F. Frame and Randolph Johnson officiating. Burial follows in Huse Memorial Park Fayetteville. He died Sunday in Phoenix. Body remains at the funeral home.
